14cm Complex ovarian cyst

Hi there, I'm really just looking for some feedback regarding my complex ovarian cyst. I am 30 years old and have recently been diagnosed with a 14cm (and growing) complex ovarian cyst on my left ovary. Right ovary is fine according to ultrasound scan. The consultant I've been seeing has set a date for surgery for first week in November. During my consultation she explained that she hoped to carry out the procedure through key hole surgery but couldn't gaurantee this.  She also informed me that because of the size and type of cyst I have that there is a chance that she may have to remove my left ovary and fallopian tube. I am really worried about this as I have no kids and was planning on starting a family very soon. Has anybody else had a similar sized complex cyst and if so what was the outcome. The thoughts of waiting this long is terrifying. Thanks x

Hi I'm 26 & recently had a 7cm dermoid cyst removed from my right ovary.  I found out only last wednesday (sept 21st 2011), then had the laparotomy on thur the following day. After surgery the dr told me the cyst had twisted my ovary a complete 360 degrees (causing the agonising pain I experienced a wk before), stopping blood supply to my ovary. If it was left any longer it would've become gangrene & I would have been a lot more trouble.
Before surgery, the dr told me I had every chance I'd lose the ovary too. Luckily, he was able to keep it.
I truly empathise where you're coming for. When I found out that there was a chance I could lose one ovary, I walked out of the room & just broke down crying as I have no kids & have always wanted a family. The dr reassured me many women are still able to fall pregnant, some quite easily with one ovary. I asked if he could freeze the eggs in the ovary that could potentially be removed & he said there was no point as the remaining one is more than capable.
I also remembering feeling frustrated because he couldn't give me a final answer as to all this. It was more like - we'll see when you open you up as to what we can save.

I wish you the best of luck & my thoughts are with you. Hope everything turns out ok.

Use this forum! It's fantastic!
