I would opt for having them both removed as well. I am 49 and had a complex cyst and fibroid. My dr. left one ovary because I am not menopausal yet but she said if I was she would have removed both. I also had an endomitrial biopsy before the surgery. I was also told the odds of it being cancerous was pretty slim. Good luck with the surgery and you will feel so much better afterwards!
I would also go for having them both removed. Is your cyst complex? If so, you do need to see a gynecologic oncologist prior to your surgery. Any complex cyst over 5cm runs a small chance of being malignant. Your odds of malignancy are also increased if you are post-menopausal. So, it is best to play it safe and have a gyn/onc available, just in case malignancy is found. Otherwise, if it is a simple cyst, your gyn is fine to do the surgery. I hope all goes well!

Thanks Mandi, thats the direction I am leaning toward!
Personally if your post menopausal and this is the second time you have had a cyst, I'd have both ovaries removed. Just my opion but they are going to be redundant before long anyway so might as well remove the of anymore cyst or OC and get the menopause over and done with.
