Adhesions

I had surgery yesterday to remove 8cm cyst. She went in through the belly button but was unable to remove the cyst ,ovary and tube. The cyst and ovary were adhered to my abdomen and colon, as well as the cyst and tube were twisted. No wonder it hurt so bad! She  had to make two 1 inch incisions in my 18 year old c-section scar to remove all of it.She checked my right ovary and it was adhered to my abdomen also and had to be cut away. The pain is horrible ,ran a fever for first 8 hours I was home, but I have had no vaginal bleeding. Is that normal not to bleed? They just kept saying lets wait and see what it does. That was on the 3rd of Feb.I was in so much pain by that next Mon I got an urgent care appointment with the other doctor on staff, and she said surgery Friday. So thank goodness she didn't say lets wait and see! If anyone else has had a similar situation, how long did it take for the abdominal pain to go away?

I hope you are feeling better. My prayers go out to you!!! I hate it when doctors say "let's wait." Its important to be proactive and demand that something be done, like scans and tests. I have to do this as I had surgery 2 weeks ago to remove my right ovary and they did a lap. It stil hurts as if my fallopian tube is "flying" around in there. I thought everything was good, but who knows. It's been a while since you posted this ,but I hope you are recovered!

Your body went through such a traumatic ordeal that it may take a bit longer to heal.  When they went back in, was it done laproscopically?  I am glad that the fever broke.  Did they give you antibiotics?  Please keep a watch on your fever.  Have you been vomiting at all?  Give yourself 6 weeks to get back to normal.  You are right, walking will help your body heal faster.  I hope you get feeling better soon!

Yes it was quite a bit more than expected. The fever broke last night and has not returned.I have been making sure to get up and walk often.Walking also helps to get the bowels moving. The incisions look great my husband changed the bandages this morning.I'm sure I will be feeling better soon.It just takes time to heal. Thanks again for your input.Sorry to hear about your job loss.Sometimes a step in a new direction can do the soul good.Best of luck to you!

Oh, that's so much more surgery than you expected.  I would say that this is going to take longer than a typical laparoscopy.  You may be really sore for two weeks, then steadily improving thereafter.  Maybe a month to six weeks to feel somewhat normal again?

Keep ahead of the pain with the medication, but do not overdo it, either.  You don't want the meds to lead to severe constipation.  No heavy foods that are slow to digest, either.  NO heavy lifting whatsoever (that means nothing 5 lbs or greater).  Watch that fever, too.  It needs to go away soon or there could be some kind of infection.

Walk around!  It's not fun, but not moving is not healthy, either.

I hope you feel improvements sooon.
