Burst cyst, when to worry?

Hello. I had a cyst that burst about a month ago. I thought there might be something wrong with my IUD which I had gotten two months prior. So my OB scheduled an ultrasound which revealed I had a cyst that burst. The ultrasound doctor said that she would normally want to follow up since I had another cyst that looked a little big. However, it is ultimately up to my OB to decide if a follow up is necessary. Well, I never heard from my OB and I'm worried my cyst will burst. The pain is like nothing else I've ever experienced, including childbirth. So I'm wondering if this is just something I may have to live with? When do cysts become a concern? Could there be a connection with my IUD as I have never had this type of problem before?  Or is it more commom as you get older? I'm 29. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I saw my OB and she said there is no connection to the IUD and my IUD is doing just fine. I have a complex cyst that we're keeping an eye on. I have to get another ultrasound in about a month or so. I hope it just goes away, I'm way to busy to deal with this....

I also had an IUD then one day an episode of the most excruciating pain. I ended up at the ER where they took out the IUD, but it wasn't the cause of the pain. It turned out I had cysts (the ones on my right ovary went away, but the one on the left ovary is 4cm x 6cm and filled with blood). I asked my doctor what caused this particular episod of intense pain. But she didn't know. Maybe I had a cyst that ruptured? What else could cause such intense pain?

Hi,
Functional cysts of the ovary are common during the child bearing age group. These will usually resolve spontaneously. Follow up of the cysts is however absolutely necessary. The formation of cysts has no relation with IUD. Instead of IUD, hormonal contraception may be considered as it will also help in prevention of cysts.
Hope this helps.
