Can I have a laparoscopic surgery when I am on my period?

I period is due around the date when my surgery is scheduled. The surgery is to remove an ovarian cyst. Will it be a problem? Did anybody have similar experience. Thank you so much.

Welcome to the community. The CA125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer since benign conditions can cause an elevated result. There can also be false negatives (normal results when ovarian cancer is present). However, it is supposed to be more helpful in post-menopausal women although still not a definitive yes or no. Most ovarian cysts even in post-menopausal women are benign.

How did your appointment go?

I am 67 years old with three adults children.  Since May, I have had diarrhea, indigestion, gas, a feeling of fullness, and bloating.  Now my ankles are swollen.  My ultrasound showed that I have a 9 cm mass growing on my right ovary. My CA 125 is 404 and I have an appointment with the gynecologic oncologist on Wednesday, July 1.  Today is Monday.  I am so uncomfortable that l have been tempted to go to the emergency room.  But after reading some of these postings, I wondering if they will send me home, and I don't want that to happen.  I am trying to hold out.  I really want to be admitted immediately after my appt on Wednesday, to have this thing taken out of me.

Thank you so much for your reply, ginicart. I called the surgery center and was told that it should not be a big problem if it is the first day since it is usually not heavy. But I have not heard directly from my surgeon yet. My surgery has been re-scheduled once already. I really want it to be over. Thank you for your advice.

I had my cervix dilated for endometrial biopsy while on my period - it was horrible! Reschedule!
I have also had laproscopy for ocyst and fibroid removal but not on my period but right before. It hurts for about a week.  I put my pain meds on a schedule ( as prescribed on bottle ) set your alarm for the first couple of nights so you don't wake up in pain during the middle of the night.
