Cyst and pain

I was just diagonised with a 3cm cyst on my right ovary after calling to complain of uterine tenderness and pain around the time of ovulation. After reading some of the other posts I am even more reassured that I have a great GYN. He did not dismiss me as crazy, ordered the ultrasound and called me the same day and gave me the options of watching or going ahead with surgery. I have a strong history of cancer in my family and it was such a relief to talk to him.

Because of the other symptoms, heavy, extremely painful periods all of a sudden, the tenderness and swelling of my uterus and the fact that it is enlarged, he mentioned that I may have adenomyosis. We decided after the ultrasound and physical exam to repeat the ultrasound in 6 weeks to check the cyst and go from there. But at any time I can call if the pain gets worse. He's great!

Well, my cycle started today, at least I think that's what it is and the pain is much worse and this time I can tell it is the ovary. I'm not having any menstrual cramps, so is that normal for the cyst pain to increase during your period? This is my first experience with this. I have also had the back pain and now I am hurting all aound my middle, from my ribs down, like I have been doing tons of sit=ups. I hate to keep bothering them but the pain med I have doesn't really help and I don't know if this kinda normal.

Thanks for any info

I am sorry you are feeling pain- these cysts are evil little devils. The pain you describe is exactly what I had- not to trump the size but mine was 5.5 when first found and 7.5 by the time they removed it! The picture was amazing!

But - not to make light of your pain, you are doing the right thing by getting checked out and if the pain med doesnt help- try calling for something stronger. I was advised to go with OTC naproxen (they said I could do it every 6 hours rather than every 8) and another analgesic as the two can be taken together- one for inflammation and one for the pain. They said to do one first- then the other four hours later and cycle them. Obviously- DO NOT just take my advice- but check with your doc. To be brtually honest I found that a hot water bottle was the best thign for me.

Faithbaby- I am sorry of your doc told you to go to the ER- that sounds bad if you were just askign for a prescription for pain- really bad. sorry and I hope it subsides a little.

I am having the same problems right now and just started my period today as well! My cyst is 4cm though and I have the excruciating back pain and pelvic pain too! I am thinking of going to the ER tonight because I've been in pain for over a week and now its really bad... I will let you know what happens because I called my doctor and asked for pain meds to get me through the week and they called back telling me to go to the ER..  Good luck and god bless!
