Cyst growth almost 6 cm and Hip Pain

Hello ladies, I am new here and  would love some insight,  I am 49 and I had a partial hysterectomy June 09. I am really mad at my OBGYN I had at the time because he not only did a bladder test on me and found that I have severe bladder problem but he had put me through a procedure that burned my uterus wall first, which did not work then did the partial hysterectomy. He ask me if I wanted my ovaries removed and I told him yes, I did not want to have to go through any more surgeries than necessary. While they were in there they found that I had endometerosis so bad that they had to call in a GI surgeon to remove a few inches of my intestine due to it had started wrapping around it.  4 weeks after my surgery I had a cat scan due to pain I had, I thought maybe I overdid it and pulled something. My OBGYN told me I had a small hernia (WHICH NOW I KNOW I DID NOT), I was led to believe that he only took one of my ovaries. Since then in the last 2 years I have had major back pain to the point of going to a Chiropractor, bloating, and unable to lose weight, bladder leakage, and for the last 6 months severe pain in my lower hip area. Thinking it is my body just getting  the olds I did nothing. Last week I had to go to the ER for severe pain on my right side and vomiting. Thinking it was a appendicitis. It turned out to be a kidney stone. During the CAT Scan they also found a cyst 5.9x5.1cm, imagine my surprise when they said it had grown since my last CAT and that I had BOTH ovaries. My past OBGYN has since retired ( lucky man, I am P.Oed) and have a appt today with a new OBGYN to get a Ultrasound on this cyst. I want both removed since I have already had a Hysto, and really can not keep paying for surgeries every so many years,  I am also terrified of the C word, I keep telling myself to relax you have had this cyst for 6 years... I am just wondering if any of you have had severe hip and butt pain from your cyst. I am just mad that some bad egg doctors can play god with women's girlie bits. Wondering if any of you have had severe hip and butt pain with your cyst. Thank you and glad I found this site :)

Yes, you cannot put much stock in the CA125 test since benign conditions can cause false positives. My CA125 was normal but a friend who had the same type of benign ovarian cyst had a very elevated CA125 result...in the 1000's. Unfortunately, both surgeons removed our ovaries. :( It is too bad that your doctor plans to remove the ovary versus just the cyst but it sounds like that is ok with you.

Thank you for your response. I went to the doctor yesterday and had my Ultrasound. and the Cyst is actually 6cm. I also had a CA 125 blood test and am waiting for the phone call on the results. I have read that many times you may get a false positive. Sitting on pins and needles for the call. I just hope that they call me back today this is the longest hours I think I have ever had to live. She did say that atleast this ovary is gonna have to go. I will let you know. Thanks again for the response. I am feeling in a lonely spot.

Welcome to the community. I am sorry for all you have been going through. Ovarian cysts can cause pelvic pain but so can endometriosis. And the anatomical changes caused by hysterectomy can cause hip as well as back pain. I have personally experienced that. I am the opposite of you. My ovaries were removed and I wish they weren't because it has caused so many problems including rapid aging. Studies show that the ovaries produce hormones up to at least age 80 and these hormones are used by every cell in the body to protect us from many health problems. Studies say that removing the ovaries does not make sense for most women since lifetime risk of ovarian cancer in women with normal risk is VERY LOW (less than 2%). Maybe that is why your previous ob/gyn did not remove yours.

If this cyst needs to come out, there are surgeons who can remove just the cyst (cystectomy) which would preserve your ovary and its vital lifelong functions.
