I didn't think an abdominal u/s was typically used for getting a good view of the ovaries and possible cysts. But if you went to this new doctor about your cyst and he wanted to check it, it seems he would have done the right imaging test. Maybe it was miscommunicated to the u/s tech (assuming it was a tech vs. the doctor doing the u/s)? Or maybe I am mistaken about needing a transvaginal u/s.
Actually these were two different doctors. I am thinking of going for another sonogram before arriving at a conclusion. But just for curiosity, is it possible for an over the abdomen ultrasound to miss a 5 cm cyst?
I thought a transvaginal ultrasound had to be done to get a good view of the ovaries and possible cysts. I have read that most cysts resolve in 2 to 3 menstrual cycles / months. Two weeks does seem too early but I suppose it is possible. Did your doctor give you any explanation?
But both ultrasounds were done within a gap of 2 weeks. Is it really possible for the 5cm huge cyst to go away within such a short span? Is it possible the second ultrasound was wrong? Because it was done from over the abdomen and not transvaginal?
It sounds like the cyst went away on its own as most do. Cysts are a normal part of the menstrual cycle but sometimes they hang around longer than normal and grow before resolving. And of course there are some that do not go away and have to eventually be surgically removed. But the large majority do resolve on their own, no intervention needed.
