Most doctors start talking about removing cysts when they reach 5cm in size. I am not surprised that your doctor may be considering surgery. Keep in mind that even though your cyst is not causing many symptoms now, it could very well cause a lot of pain at any time. That is the thing with these silly things. They can be extremely painful one day and the next to cause any problems. You never know when they are going to rear their ugly heads and cause a lot of pain. With a laprascopic surgery you will probably come home the same day as surgery. You may be laid up for a couple of weeks. I think you will be extremely surprised at how bad you actually felt when you had the cyst (If you chose to get it removed). Good luck and please let us know what you decide.
I'm in the process of recovering from a laparoscopic surgery that I had 10 days ago. Despite the large size of my cyst, my symptoms were minimal. However, I would definitely say that my surgery has been a complete success so far--not as painful as I expected with very few side effects as some post here (clearly everybody reacts differently to surgery so there's no way to know, but it's not always a huge ordeal). The one thing I will say 10 days out is that I'm very tired. I'm able to take it easy and I know fatigue is normal. If you do end up having surgery, I would highly recommend asking people here for suggestions so you know what to expect. The more prepared you are to take care of yourself, the better your recovery will be.
Hi i had a laparoscopy done on the 15th April and you feel tired most of time i think its because of the anastetic they use on your body and you need to rest a lot,i took a week home to recover, with regards to your periods i think its dependent on a person because on the month that i had my cyst removed my periods didn't come and this month they came around the 8th with no pain or any discomfort.
goodluck on you surgery and please update us when you come back.
Thanks for your support everyone!
My doc tells me my cyst is simple, yet not complex...Most of what it contains is fluid w/ some solid material. I will know Monday what my surgery date will be.
