First menstrual cycle after oophorectomy?

I had a larger dermoid/teratoma removed along with my left ovary and fallopian tube and a 3.5 cm functional cyst removed from my right ovary( still have my right ovary) one month ago. I am now currently on my first period since the surgery and it WAY different from my usual periods. I went from slight cramps/back aches and light/regualr bleeding for 3-4 days, this go around I'm only on day 2 and not quiet sure how I'm even still alive after bleeding so much and the increased pains, I had my post op today and was put back on birth control to help prevent the functioning cysts from returning, however I forgot to mention to my dr the heavy bleeding. I have also had night sweats, hot flashes, and REALLY painful ovulation. With losing one ovary and tube I knew my hormones would be wacky, just wasn't expecting to this extent for only being 24 and still keeping one over. But my question is has anyone else gone through the heavy periods post op and the crazy hormone change and how long did it take to regulate? I know the birth control will help but he put me on low dose so I'm not sure if that will affect how long it takes to get back to something normal.
