Follow up on removal of cyst

Hi there, I am new to this forum and was just looking for some reassurance.  My consultant discovered a cyst when I was 20 weeks pregnant, it was drained at 21 weeks and they took out 10 litres and I lost a stone in weight as it was huge.  I had this cyst removed two months ago and the surgeon removed my right ovary and tube and my appendics at the same time.  I just had my out patient appointment with my surgeon yesterday who said that while the cyst wasnt cancerous it was 'precancerous' and that thats why it had to be removed.  He stressed not to worry and to go away and simplylive my life and that he would just keep an eye on me over the next months/years.  I have to go for a blood test in threemonths time which I think will becomea routine thing. Is this normal after having a cyst removed or should I be worried.  Sorry for the long post, just looking for some advice.

Hi,
It sounds like your Dr. is on top of things and follow ups are always a good thing..If the blood test is a CA-125, bear in mind that a lot of things can throw the results of those tests..So many things can cause the numbers to increase.. and you don't need to worry needlessly. It isn't really reliable as a screening tool in younger women, but some Drs. feel it is "better than nothing" . Just be aware of the unreliability. Your Dr. seems to be very proactive and that is reassuring. I frankly wouldn't worry .. just keep your appointments and watch for any unusual symptoms. After a years time, I'd ask the Dr. if he thinks another TVUS would be a good idea (only because of the size of this one).. Can't hurt to ask right?? In the meantime, take care and keep us posted...

Do you know what type of blood test?  CA-125 perhaps?  Some type of routine follow-up makes sense since you still have one ovary to monitor as well as your post-op recovery.  It sounds like the one ovary was removed before it was a serious threat to you.  It doesn't sound like there's reason to worry, just to be vigilant and take action if another big cyst starts to develop on the other ovary.  In other words, just stay current with your routine exams so any problems can be caught early.  The one cyst was huge, stayed with you a long time before removal and you still caught it early enough, so that is all good.
