Why is my lower back pain increasing?

I have had an MRI done which discovered a 6 cm cyst on my left ovary this Monday in the ER. I went back on Wednesday because of increased pain in my lower back, where they proceeded with a vaginal ultrasound. They gave me a few more percocets for the pain, along with 600 mg of ibprophen which are a joke as they barely take the edge off.  My doctor's nurse said I had to wait until Monday for a referral to a OB-GYN and then who knows how long it will be before I am seen.  Every day the pain is worse, especially in the lower back region. So my question is, should I keep going into an ER until someone takes me seriously enough to do something so that I don't have to sit around and wait? Also, I do not menstrate as I had a partial hystorectomy in 1998. The heat, pain meds and ibrophen treatment at home again is doing NOTHING for the pain and no one will give me a straight forward answer. Yesterday I felt like the doctor thought I was seeking pain meds because I like the high from them, which I DO NOT. I was also given 2 injections of a medicine that makes me edgy almost to the point of uncontrolable anger. So what anyone suggest I do. Should I kick back and wait for god knows how many days before I see a OB-GYN or do I just keep going into an ER until they take my back pain seriously? Has anyone found ways to eleviate their pain? Thank you

They have run all the standard tests on me so far.  Two blood work ups, which I have no idea how they came out, MRI as well as the vaginal ultrasound.  They have tested me for kidney stones/infections, negative, and bladder infection, and again negative.
Yes most of my back pain is on the left side, but it hurts on both sides, and it feels as though someone is trying to tear my lower spine out of my body.  My right lower abdominal area hurts too, but that side was clear and healthy, so I think that pain is from all the muscle tension from the left side.  I am taking 5mg of percocet with a 7.5mg loratab as well as 800 mg of ibprophen, this i take every six hours, the ibprophen that is. As far as the pain meds, suffice it to say that I have take almost 30mg of the narcotics to take some of the edge off.  So what did you ladies do to get the doctor's to listen to you to get you on something stronger then pain meds, without them looking at you like you were seeking meds?  Also at 6 cm is it realistic to think that this dang thing will rupture before it just receeds if you will on it's on?  I have thought it over and I seriously want to request/demand that I have surgery and they take it out.  I don't know what else to do for the pain as it is driving me crazy and get's worse every day. I thank you all for being here and sharing your experiences with me.  It's nice not to feel alone.

Hi there.  Do come on over to the ovarian cyst forum and join us.  Many of the ladies have had similiar issues.  Yes, back pain is very common with cysts.  It is not unreasonable to request pain meds for this.  I'm not sure how much can be done until Monday.  Can you at least get into your GP on Monday and perhaps he can give you something for the pain?  Unfortunately the waiting is quite standard and is oh so frustrating.  Even after a mass was seen on my ultrasound my GP refused to believe it was anything to worry about.  I had to fight and keep saying how much pain I was in to get what I needed.  Here are some suggestions that I used.  I couldn't take the percocets when I was working from home so used some of these to help:

- soak in hot baths
- take a benadryl and/or a gravol so at least you are sleeping some of the time away if necessary
- drink wine or your favourite alcoholic drink - this did help to relax me
- my GP gave me some anti-anxiety drugs too which helped me to deal with the worry

I really hope you can get some relief soon.

Hugs, Trudie

Beachwalker gave you some great suggestions!!!  I'm very sorry that you are in such awful pain!  It sounds like it is driving you crazy!!!  Call your doctor (the one who's getting the referal) and ask for a stronger pain medicine like Dilauded mentioned.  That helped me so much after my surgeries.  That is not unreasonable to ask!  Explain to them that you do not want to keep going to the ER.

Unfortunately it is a Holiday weekend and you'll have to wait for the referal.  The gyn will be able to help you.  When the office calls back with the appointment date and it is not soon enough for you,  let them know how bad the pain is!!!  They should be able to fit you in sooner!I don't know that much about cysts and can't say if your extreme back pain are related.  You can visit the cyst forum or the expert forum.  The links  are down to the right of this page.   It may take a few days for the doctor to respond.  Hope this helps and you get some relief......Cindy

I have found that while taking care of my mom going to the ER and mentioning anything regarding cancer freaks them out. A shot of Dilauded was the the only thing that would help her pain many times. Is your lower back pain on the same side as your cyst? Also it could be a kidney or urinary track infection get some 100 percent juice cranberry, it couldn't hurt.Drink lots of it!Hope this helps..
