How long for results? Could it be Ovarian Cancer?

Hi,

On Friday last week (6th Feb) I had a large O cyst drained, as it was attached to my ovary, they did not remove it. They have taken a fluid sample along with a blood sample and have sent them away for testing. The cyst was the size of an orange, but was only showing as a small one a month earlier at the scan. My mum died of breast cancer and now Im worried that Im going to get a bad result, they say about two weeks? Typical symptoms Ive had, bloatedness, pain after sex, flooding and clotting on heavy periods, bad breast pain. Extreme tiredness, weight gain.
Has anyone had these symptoms and it turned out to be something quite simple?
Thanks
Lesley

Oh, sorry I left out that info. My cyst was benign. Perhaps the test they did for you was a CA125. Sometimes that shows possible cancer activity. In younger women though it can be elevated from other things going on in the body.

It's been two weeks and the doctor should have the results by now. Please do call and find out so you can rest at night. I know it's tricky - you want to know but you don't want to know if it's bad news. My guess is if it was bad news, they would have called you right away to discuss treatment options. But even if it's good news, they should be sensitive enough to know you're waiting on pins and needles.

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to write back to me, was yours a good result when they called? Im not really sure what the blood test was for, so Ill just have to wait and see I suppose. It felt to me like the surgeons dont really give you much of a clue, they showed me the picture of the cyst and told me it was being tested, thats all. Guess Ill leave it another few days and then check?
Thanks again

They should call you either way. The results from my surgery took a week. I also had a fairly large (10 cm/4") cyst on my ovary. They removed the whole mess: ovary, cyst and tube.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. Have you had any blood tests for the BRCA genes 1 and 2? It doesn't mean you're absolutely going to get cancer but it may help to know if you're at greater risk.

Hi, yes to all your symptoms and it was a benign cyst.  Have you called your GYN for the results?  I'd say that if they haven't called you yet then it's good news.  I'm very sorry about your mom and can understand your worry.

Take care.
