Has anyone ever had a teratoma?
My NP knew almost nothing about them and I had done all of my own research. I drove myself crazy thinking of all the negative possibilities and possible aftermath I would have to live with. I feel greatful to have been referred to a compassionate and caring gynecologist who could only promise he would do his best to help ensure I maintain my fertility.
There is a teratoma in each of my ovaries, they are both fairly large, and my ability to conceive children is a huge concern to me right now, as is the fact that they could be malignant (I am only 22). My gynecologist also warned me of the fact that they're so big, they could break during a simple exercise, like my running or dance.
I have been advised by a small number of family and friends (the small number who know) to seek a second opinion, however I'm very worried that the longer I wait, the more risk I could be causing myself. Also, because of how large they are, I want to trust this gynecologist I have met that he will do his best to help me keep as much of my ovarie(s) as possible. It will be tricky for any surgeon I'm sure, so I am doubting a second opinion will do any good. My surgery is scheduled for 2 weeks from now.
If anyone has any experience or words to share, I would greatly appreciate it.
