I had my surgery - hallelujah! High Amylase levels?

I had surgery on Wednesday to remove what ended up to be a twisted ovarian cyst about the size of an orange, and the right ovary came out as well. ins

The surgeon spent a full two hours working on it carefully so that it ended up being just a laporoscopy instead of a laportomy, much to my delight. I was in the hospital two nights.

I'm feeling pretty good, the pain actually isn't too bad with painkillers, it's the wind that has been more painful (that's Gas for you americans!), but that is bearable as long as you get up and walk around and let it out every so often!

My blood test, repeated twice, for Amylase levels, has come back adnormally high- has anyone else had this? I've been told to come back to my GP in a month to have it retested. Apparently these levels can shoot up when one has a twisted cyst, but I would love to hear if anyone else has been through this.

Thank you again for all the encouragement and advise and for sharing your stories. I  can honestly say that I was treated wonderfully by all hosptial staff from start to finish, and I'm sure your experience will be positive too! And I'm just so happy to be free of that ticking timebomb of pain which was my cyst!

thanks fungirl ! No he didn't say, but the sonographer had said it looked like a fluid filled one. I'm taking the view that the lack of info is a good thing - no one seems fussed about it, so neither am I! Just relieved to be on the other side.

Congratulations on such a successful surgery.  Did the surgeon say what kind of cyst you had?  Now is the time to sit back, rest and let your body heal.  Keep in mind that even though you are feeling well, your body is still healing on the inside.  Give it plenty of time to fully heal.  Also, if you take some Gas X, it will help with the gas pains.  Now take it easy and let others pamper you.
