Incision healing question

Hey everyone,
It's been a little over a week (actually almost 2 weeks) since my laporotomy. I got my 22 staples out on monday (YAY!!!). First off how many of you had more pain with your staples pulling rather then the actual swelling. Definitly for me i felt 100X worse with them in. I didn't take it as slow as i should have that first day off but oh well i payed for it today but it still didn't compare to the staples pain. I think it also had to do with how long i had them in for usually they want them out with in 5 days and i had mine in for almost 10 days. but now to my question my incision isn't fully healed obviously and i have been using triple action polysporn but i was wondering if anyone here had any suggestion for a quicker healing agent or lotion? Thanks for all your help this website has been a god sent! thanks for all your help in advanced

I agree with above i dont think there is any alternative to let nature heal its own way. I too the frist laparoptomy had staples in for 10 does and yes ouchh. I had a slight infection in navel, kept it clean and dry and it healed in a few days. You are doing well keep resting and it will heal. like funnygirl says you carnt see the inside so do as you are told. keep healing and take care x

The  nurses said it looked fine when they took the staples out and it looks exactly the same as when they did it I think the spots that are taking the longest time to heal/ looked externally healed at least is the location of where they started the surgery laproscopically. Thanks for you help. As for lifting i have been told no more then 10 lbs so I am glad my cat is only 8 ;) haha but other then that i haven't been doing much of anything.

Wow, you are doing really well for only being out of surgery for 2 weeks!!  You need to be patient and give your body time to heal.  You could try Vitamin E to put on your incision.  I personally just think that you need to give it time to heal naturally.  I know how great it feels when the staples come out.  They are such a pain (literally).  I too had my staples in for longer than 5 days and my skin was starting to grow on some of them.  The pulling sensation was not very fun.  I'm glad that you are doing so well and feeling good.  PLEASE try to remember that your body needs LOTS of rest right now to heal properly.  Also, just because the outside incision looks to be healing quickly doesn't mean that the inside incision is healing as quickly.  Please take it easy and NO lifting heavy objects.  Hope your recovery keeps going this well.
