Gyn Onc Appt and Period...

Hi All,

I have a funny question.

I have my follow-up appointment scheduled with my gnyecologial oncologist on the 12th of Jan.

Last time I saw him, he examined me and was pretty sure my cyst went away but sent me for an ultrasound anyway. The results said my cyst on my right ovary was still 10 x 10 cm.

I just realized that the 12th will be the start of my period. Do you think he'll want to examine me again or do you think he'll just be setting a surgery date? Do you think it's a problem for him to examine me when I have my period?

I called the office and I'm waiting on a call back from  the scheduler, which always takes forever. It's so hard to even get an appointment in the first place so I'm hoping it's not even a problem and I don't have to reschedule for a later date....I'm too anxious to wait any longer!

Thanks, girls!

Yeah, it's so hard to get an appt at these oncology places. The last thing I want is for it to be delayed again.

It's going to be embarassing but it's worth it to not have to scoot the appointment back again. The worst part is that my oncologist is really cute!

Hi there,
I too had an exam while on my period. It was my first appt with the gyn/onc and I was really embarassed, but he didn't seem to care at all. I told the nurse I had my period, I had waited 2 months for the appt and figured well if I have to reschedule I did, but the staff was very nonchalant and unbothered by the whole thing. The nurse told me they see women bleeding every day....hmmm, so there you have it..lol

I know for a fact that the doctor can still do an ultrasound while you are on your period.  It may not be a vaginal one though.  Trust me, you are not the first one to possibly be on or get your period when seeking medical consultation.

Jan 12th is a ways off and there's time for your doctor to call back, reschedule if necessary. They can examine while you're on your period. I had that done once. Completely embarrassing for me, the doctor wasn't bothered at all. Your cyst has already been determined so your doctor may not feel the need to check it again manually. My doctor did on the pre-surgical visit - just a quick squeeze to make sure it was still there. They'll figure it out. But I do understand your concern.
