Not a question , just my background info.

Hello everyone.
Ive been browsing through some of the other posts on the forum and I lost where I was originally going to put this.
Many of you have come over from the OVCA forum ( full of wonderful people with alot of knowledge to share) and have posted a little about themselves and their experience with Ovarian cysts.
I just thought I would post my experience as well ..

Im 29 years old , married but no children as yet. I have Hypothyroidism ( diagnosed in August 2006 - still struggling towards regulation )

I was sent in for an ultrasound in  late February due to abdominal girth increase ( steady increase roughly 3-5 lbs a month for years ) and pains across my abdomen, and pelvis. I was told I had a 14x14xsomething cm  mass on my left ovary.
I was referred to a Gyn/Ob ( awesome Doctor ) who sent me for further testing. My CA-125 was around 130 or so . Upon further examination of the mass , they discovered it was so large they couldnt actually give a definite measurement. It was measured in two parts ( the appearance seems to be two seperate cysts that had a common channel that they "communicated" through ) the larger part was roughly 60x47x30cm , the smaller around 20x14x10cm.
My Gyn/Ob felt I should see a Gyn Onc so chances of needing a second surgery were smaller , not needed etc.
My Gyn Onc felt very strongly that this was not a malignant cyst due to age/appearance etc and suggested an ultra sound guided cyst aspiration to drain the fluid and test that.
My first cyst aspiration was on April 1  and they drained 18L . My second aspiration was on April 18 and they drained 10L . I am scheduled to go in on April 28 for another ( and hopefully last ) aspiration . I will be monitored to track the "casing" or "pouch" of the cyst to see if it reforms on its own , or if it refills or looks abnormal in any other way for the next 3 months . I will then go in to see my Gyn Onc to discuss if surgery is needed or not.
Thats pretty much it!
If you have  questions about aspirations etc , feel free to ask me . Ill try to help you the best I can!
~Tam

Tam,
That is wonderful news - NO CANCER.  Great to hear.  I will keep you in my prayers that Monday's procedure will go well, that the casing will shrink quickly and not refill and continued recovery for you! Thanks for letting me know,
Colleen

And that's what this is all about!  Great work!  It's so nice (personally speaking) that I feel this pain we go through can benefit others... kind of a silver lining, or a hopeful wish you can hold onto.

Thanks again!

Thankyou!
I found only one other on the ovca forum who had gone through an aspiration of a cyst ( hers was performed differently because it was for a different reason but basically the same ) so Im glad I can give some information on this procedure.

Sandymac : Yes , cysts this size are rare basically because of awareness of ovca etc. Mine was left for so long as my family doctor diagnosed me with hypothyroidism and thought the weight I was gaining was due to that disorder. I am also a plus sized girl (a figure I intend keeping- just not so big lol ) and he assumed my weight gain was a combination of the disorder and me just "getting fatter" . Needless to say Im looking for a new family doctor as well as an endocrinologist to control my hypothyroidism.

Laney8463: Thankyou for your wishes. I m happy that everything is benign as well. Even with the size and the weight problems etc ,  I really cant complain about anything . Its not cancer. Some girls my age arent so lucky . I feel so badly for them..

Ivfrogs: They pathology came back negative - no Cancer. It was such wonderful news. My surgeon (gyn/onc) thinks this may be the last aspiration on the 28th. This will be my third aspiration . The casing of the cyst will (hopefully) shrink on its own. Thats what we want it do anyway. Its a bit painful , the casing is sort of rubbing along my stomach and it hurts a bit but I can live with that  and eventually it will go away as it shrinks. The situation we dont want is 1) it refills , even a little - that will mean surgery. 2 ) it doesnt grow back - that will mean surgery as well . I dont mind answering questions - feel free to ask  :)

JandaB: Thank you for your words and your crossed fingers :)  Monday will be a breeze, I just hope we get it all and  I can heal up lol

Hello Tam,
I just read your post and wow, the size! I can't begin to imagine how you were feeling. I am assuming since they did the first aspiration on April 1st, that they test the fluid and it came back benign?  Will they now shrink and disappear?  Sorry for all the questions!
