Ovarain cyst and Endometrial polyp-- Help

Hi All,
I just turned 25 last week, and I went to GYN last month and he did my ultrasound and found out that I have a right ovarian cyst, which is 6 and half cm big. And Also I have thick lining (20 mm) on border of my uterus, which is called Endometrial polyp. It's benign but doctor said I should remove cyst and polyp thru Laproscopy. He said there is no hurry but I am sooo scared. I am just 24 and single..and surgery sounds too scary. He did my ultrasound because he asked me if I have heavy bleeding and I do have heavy bleeding since I started having periods.not all days but 2nd and 3rd days are heavy...so that's why he did ultrasound. I get my cycle every 26 days for 4 days. But sometimes I also get bleeding in between my cycle for 2-3 days..which is some spotting only..but still...
I heard surgery has risks...Please advise.

Yesterday I went for second opinion and that doctor told me that I should try medication first, if medication won't help then I should go for surgery. She gave me sample of birth control pills for 3 months and then she said she will do ultrasound in 6 weeks form today. She said if after 3 months cyst is still the same size and the lining of polyp is still thick then we can do Laprscopy and remove it.

I am sooo confused...I am getting married in December...and all this things make me very nervous...
Please help and advise.

Thanks so much

Hi,.

Thanks so much for the reply. No I don't have any symptoms, I don't have cramps or pain anything like that...I just have some what heavy bleeding..which is on 2nd and 3rd day. But other that nothing else. Doctor doesn't know nature of cyst, he said will know after the biopsy during surgery.
First doctor said cyst won't come out with pills. But second id saying you should at least try, in some cases it might does. That's why got more confused. I personally prefer medication first, because I feel at this young age surgery might cause any further problem.
Still thinking and confused :-(

Thanks,

Hi there.  I can't comment on the polyp situation as I have no experience there.  Did they say what kind of cyst it is?  Are you having any other symptoms?  The health pages (top right) have info on types of cysts and symptoms you might find helpful.  Since the first doctor says there is no rush it may not hurt to follow the second doctor's suggestion.  Just be sure you do go for that follow up ultrasound and if you get more pain or symptoms you need to have them addressed.  Good luck with everything.
