Ovarian Cyst Aspiration vs. Laprascopy

I was diagnosed w/ a 6x6x3 left ovarian cyst a month ago.  The cyst first appeared after a first trimester miscarriage I had back in October 2009 and seems to have slowly grown since.  I'm due for a second abdominal/transvaginal ultrasound next week to monitor its growth.  I'm asymptomatic for the most part although i feel "heaviness" in my left leg.  To date, my menstural cycles have remained normal and painless. My doctor explained that it was simple but did contain some solid components although didn't explain exactly what.  Then she immediately suggested laprascopic surgery.  I will not have a chance to speak with her face to face until May 24th.  In the meantime, I wonder why a doc would opt for surgery without having exhausted other options.  Having done some research, I understand that an ultrasound guided cyst aspiration is less invavsive alternative.  Does anyone have any thoughts or input?  What are the chances of this thing coming back?  I'm concerned.

yay! finally, a response.  THank you.  This message board has been so helpful in calming me down.  i feel relieved knowing i'm not the only one going through this.  Since my doc gave me a month or so to try herbs and such, i'm so curious to know how this cyst has progressed.  Something tells me it's still lingering in there, I just hope it hasn't grown.  I will keep everyone posted.

Hi and welcome to the forum.  It does get kind of confusing when we get so little information.  I imagine that your doctor is opting for surgery since the size is larger and it is complex (fluid and solid components) cyst.  I imagine with the solid components it would be a lot harder or impossible to do by aspirating it.  Of course I am no doctor, but that just makes sense to me.  You will find on this forum that there are may AWESOME women who are very helpful.  We will all give you the support you need and offer what advice we know.  I suggest writing down any questions you have so that you can ask your doctor them at your appointment on the 25th.  Good luck and keep us updated on how you are getting along.
