Ovarian Cyst Rupture??

Last Thursday, I went to the gyno for what I think is another ovarian cyst (1st one removed in February). She sent me for an ultrasound (vaginally) which was Friday, of course I have to wait 3 weeks to get the results. She also found a bacterial infection and prescribed me with Metronidazole Gel, for I have been taking for 5 days now. Tuesday morning I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen (best described as round ligament pain for anyone who has been pregnant and experienced this), it went away after about 30 minutes. Later on Tuesday, I was holding my lap-top computer and slightly leaned it on my belly and felt a little pain. I lifted my shirt up to feel it with my hands and found what felt like a little round ball, just below and to the left of my belly button. My husband then says that my belly looked swollen. Due to the bacterial infection, that gel that I'm using has been 'cleaning out' my system, and I can't tell if it's blood coming out from the gel, or from something else. Today, Wednesday, I've had increased bright red bleeding, slight menstrual cramps, and it hurts really bad when I bend over. Is this an ovarian cyst burst?? What should I do??

Sometimes when you are on the pill to skip periods you do bleed inbetween.  Ive had that happened.  Also, when I was on metrogel I didn't have any bleeding although Im not sure if it can cause that or not.  I don't think a cyst can cause vaginal bleeding.  Ive had a few cysts burst.  The last time the doctor said it hemorrhaged (not sure on spelling) into the ovary.  He said that if I would have bled into my abdomen that my body would absorb the blood and/or fluid.  I agree with MarieMichele, I would contact your doctor if you are concerned.  Good luck!

Thank you for your response. The problem is is when I had the cyst removed in February she put me on the pill to skip my periods, so I don't have a period. I see my family doctor tomorrow for all of this, because I can't wait 3 weeks for all of this. I hope it's nothing too bad.  Thank you for your response!!

I hate the Metro antibiotic.  Nasty one, but effective.  My doctor thinks it's more effective in pill form than the gel, though.  But having taken the pill form, I can say it's horrible how it makes you feel.  That was the longest week when I was on that stuff.

Three weeks is much longer than average to wait for U/S results.  Hopefully the results will arrive much sooner and they just gave you that big waiting time to cover themselves.

It's hard to say if a cyst or the infection is causing all the problems.  Bleeding could be menstruation (or early/irregular timing of it triggered by the treatment).  Call the doctor and ask.  You are under her treatment and she should be consulted if you think something isn't quite right.  If nothing else, it will put your mind at ease.
