Ovarian cyst

I have had issues so often with repeated ovarian cysts ever since 2011 when I had a hysterectomy.  This past Friday was the third time I was in the ER since November 2017 because of the excrusiting pain from it.  And because of my age of being 43 and not yet having gone through menopause they really want to conserve my ovaries not even by just taking one out and leaving one in they want to conserve both of them.  But it isn't right or fair to me to be going through and having this much pain so often.  They need to do something.  So this last Friday when in the ER they did an Ultrasound they said in the Ultrasound report something I never seen mentioned if it should be something I should be concerned about with left ovary. It said this that on left ovary there is a "complicated' cyst.  This word in parentheses I never seen or heard of referring to ovarian cysts of ovaries the word complicated what could that mean and is it something to worry about or be concerned about.

I believe "complicated" is just another term for "complex" which is a cyst that contains both solid and liquid matter. They, as well as other types of ovarian cysts, are almost always benign (non-cancerous).

Ultrasound is not exact so some cysts may appear to be complex when they are not. This website is helpful in understanding cysts - http://ovaryresearch.com/ovarian_cysts.htm. It also states that you should almost never have to lose your ovary for a benign ovarian cyst. A surgeon with good cystectomy skills should be able to remove just the cyst and preserve your ovary and its life long endocrine functions of producing hormones to keep every cell in your body healthy. Yes, the ovaries continue to produce hormones our whole lives. They do not shut down at menopause. The removal of one or both has been shown by numerous studies to do more harm than good predisposing us to all kinds of health problems.

I wonder if birth control pills (although not needed for birth control since you had a hysterectomy) may help keep them from forming.
