Thanks for your help. My gynecologist says for sure he doesn't think it is malignant and if some cancerous cells are found he has already mentioned that the nature of the surgery will then become a staging procedure, whatever that means. I did see my GP here and asked her some questions I didn't ask the gyn. She really didn't seem that knowledgeable as she was typing all the time I was talking to her and I really think she was googling the answers. I am frightened of the surgery, but more scared of what will be found there. I did have a chest x ray and that was clear - he said that fluid ont the lungs is a real indication of ovarian cancer. I will call today, and ask for a date as soon as possible. I'm not sure if he is a gynecologist/oncologist, but I have known women who have dealt with him and they all say he is good. My hairdresser told me on Friday, that I should be glad he is the one looking after me. I'll keep you all posted as to how I go on. Thank you so much for your help ladies, it is really appreciated.
Oops..the second link I gave you was not the one I intended. Here is the other link that has some great info:

I had bleeding due to ovarian cyst pressure. I'm suprised you have been allowed to go home with a cyst that large. I was made to stay in hospital until I had surgery with a 7 inch cyst. Mind you they can be wrong even with ultrasounds. they said I had one 7 inch cyst, it turned out I had 3 on each ovary and they were all over 3 inches each! you really should see your doctor again, if that things twists, which they can, your really gonna know about it. Good luck and go and see that doctor! Tell him you want the op straight away!
I was reading through your posts and wonder if you are seeing a gynecologic oncologist? Has your doctor told you if he/she suspects ovarian cancer? I don't want to frighten you because there is no way to know for sure if you have ovarian cancer until you remove the tumor and biopsy it. But, the symptoms you are describing coupled with your high CA-125 are concerning. 1500 is a pretty high reading for CA-125. The risk of a malignant cyst is increased in postmenopausal women too.
I can see you are in Canada and so I don't really know what to recommend as far as speeding up the medical process. However, I don't think you should be waiting!!! It could still be benign, but with a cyst that size, it doesn't pay to wait. Be assertive and tell them you are in pain!
I hope you can get a gynecologic oncologist because they have more experience with larger tumors. If your is malignant, they will be able debulk the cancer and stage you correctly all in one surgery. However, I have heard that it is more difficult to see a gynecologic oncologist in Canada than in the US. Here is a link to an ovarian cancer group in Canada that may be able to assist you:

If you don't have access to a gynecologic oncologist, it is still best to get that tumor removed sooner rather than later. You shouldn't have to wait for a mass that size. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 3 years ago at the age of 37. I hope all turns out to be benign, but I couldn't let you post pass by without sharing my thoughts! Best wishes to you. I hope you get help soon!
