Pregnancy after the removal of an ovary

I'm not sure if anyone can help me, but we started trying for a baby last September and conceived nearly straight away. When i was nine weeks pregnant i was admitted into hospital and found to have a cyst on my right ovary that was 11cm in length. I had to have surgery to remove the cyst and they also had to remove my ovary as they said the cyst had cut off the blood supply to it. I had a scan a couple of days later to check that the baby was ok, which it was. We left hospital feeling very relieved, but when we went back for our 12wk scan we found that we had lost the baby. Has anyone got pregnant after having this done as all i seem to do now is worry that we will never get a chance to have a baby. I still haven't had a period yet and it has been six weeks since we lost the baby is this normal? If anyone can help then please get in touch as i am going out of my mind XX

I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage.  It is difficult to cope with but since I struggled to even fall pregnant, I always think the hardest part is actually falling pregnant, so if you're able to do that then that alon should give you hope.  I had my right ovary and tube removed in '05 also due to ovca.  We had been trying for a few years before that to have a baby and I had never ever fallen pregnant, even with 2 ovaries.  Then in '07, 2 years after having the surgery we were totally shcoked to find out I was pregnant and today we have a beautiful 20 month old boy - it was a textbook pregnancy and birth.  I fell pregnant very quickly after he was born but unfortunately miscarried at 9 weeks. As hard as that was, I can't tell you how thrilled we both were to know that I could at least fall pregnant again, so we have not given up hope of another baby and have just started TTC'ing again.  I'll let you know how it goes, if only to give you hope.   Please don't give up and don't let your mind be filled with worry - it definitley gets in the way :-)  It is totally possible to fall pregnant with 1 ovary - my gyn-onc told me that the remaining ovary just kicks it up a gear and takes over from the missing one and you continue to ovulate as if you had 2 ovaries.

Good luck - try to enjoy making the babies and deinitely enjoy each other while it's just the 2 of you, before long you'll be so busy with a new baby you'll miss your time with your hubby :-)

I'm so sorry for your loss.  You may want to post on the cyst forum as well.  I just wanted to let you know that I had my right ovary and tube removed as a result of ovca and I am now 29 weeks pregnant and doing fine.  My doctors have said that having only one ovary truly does not affect your fertility.  However, everyone is different.  I urge you to speak with your doctor about your fertility and cycle changes.
