Complex cyst....surgery scheduled

New here, but have been lurking around for sometime now.   It has been so reassuring to read Gatsby's responses over and over that 99% of all cysts are benign.  I have to keep telling myself that.

I have surgery scheduled Tuesday to remove a complex cyst, size 3.4 cm.  I have been having reoccuring cysts ranging in size from 1 cm to 6 cm.  So far, all of those have been fluid filled...some shrank, others apparently burst (oh the pain!)   In December 2005 my u/s showed only one small cyst on my right ovary.  However, during January, February and March I started getting symptoms again.  This time the pain was a bit different.  It was centered in my right hip.  Anyway, just recently went back in and my doctor found two cysts over 3 cm each on my right ovary.  One was fluid filled the other one was solid.   I had a follow-up appointment a week later.  I knew that one of the cysts had burst due to the pain I had for 3 days.  Sure enough the fluid one was gone....the solid one remained and had even changed a bit in appearance.   Anyway, this coming Tuesday we'll know what it is.

Anyone have any info on cysts that change in appearance.  (I'll describe change in another post...running out of room here )

My mother died of ovarain cancer 6 years ago.  So sometimes it's been hard for me to keep a positive attitude.  My ca125 was only 7, so doc feels confident we are not dealing with cancer.  I think I will feel better about all this once surgery is over and we know for sure what it is.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful info shared here.  It's been so helpful to me

On September 9th 2009, this year I was told I had a cyst on both my ovaries.  Its been over 2 weeks and the pain is getting worse even with me taking 800 mg of ibuprofen.  I started my period 3 days ago and I am misserable.  I went for an ultrasound this morning but do not know the results yet.  If these cyst were nothing major should they have already busted, being I started my period?  Could it be something major?

The cyst seemed to change shape a bit.  It didn't look quite so round as when we first saw it.  Also, the contents of the cyst which is all solid seemed to now have areas that are more darker solid.  I'm sure if I can describe this very well.  The cysts was "whiter" in areas than it had been a week prior.  My doc and I both noticed right away that it had changed in appearance.
