Complex Ovarian Cyst follow up- EXTREMELY WORRIED!

Hello, I just got a copy of my radiology report on the 2nd follow-up(trans-vag. ultrasound) on the complex ovarian cyst.   I'm 29 years old, and have a 1 1/2 year old child.  No ovarian cancer in my family.
"The rt. ovary measures 4.9x4.1x3.5 cm in size, cyst measuring 2.2x2.9x4.1 cm in size is seen.  The spectral doppler analysis dementias following measurements.  The peak systolic velocity measures 25.5 cm/s, end diastolic velocity 17.0 cm/s and hte resistive index is 0.3.  The cyst is complex and shows low level echoes and internal septae.  Comparted to prior study Congress interval increase in size of cyst.  The low resistive index is a bothersome finding.  Close followup is recommended.  Previously noted echogenic focus is not seen on the current study.  There is no fluid in the cul de sac.  IMPRESSION: Interval increase in size of the complex rt.l ovarian cyst.  Low resistive index is a bothersome and followup examination in 6 weeks is recommended.  Normal left ovary.  No fluid in the cul-de-sac."

My OB has not ordered a CA-125 yet, and I scheduled an appointment w/a Gyn/Onc. for a second opinion.  I'm totally freaked out, and I'm not sure what all this talk of septae and low-resistive index mean.  Can someone please shead some light on this for me?  Thank you!

I'm going through a similar thing.  My complex cyst is about 3 cm with low level echoes and a mural nodule (I think that means a solid piece is growing from the wall) but they did not do any blood flow analysis with it.  I have my follow-up ultrasound next Tuesday (6wks from first)  and am wondering if they will do a more detailed exam this time.  Have you seen the gyn-onc yet?  What did he say?  When is your next follow-up scheduled?  Are you having any pain or discomfort?  How much larger has it grown since your last ultrasound?  Please post back--I'll be looking for your response!

We are not doctors and only the experts understand the lingo used in these reports.  From what I can tell, you have a complex cyst that is still growing.  It has septations, or compartments, which is often what makes a cyst "complex".  It probably presents enough solid features to make it difficult to understand its true nature.

Seeing a gyn/onc is the BEST.  Do not be alarmed that this is a "cancer" doctor.  They are cyst experts as well.

Surgery to remove just the cyst may be the recommendation.  It is wise not to keep these things inside us too long.  You have already gone through the stress of "watch and wait" and the thing got bigger.  Best to get rid of it.  The gyn/onc is the best possible surgeon for the job.
