Ovarian torsion or rupture is a concern. I hear both are quite painful. It is a shame you are having to wait for surgery but good it is coming up fairly soon. Are they going to remove just the cyst (cystectomy) leaving your ovary (or at least as much ovarian tissue as possible)? I had an ovarian cyst that the frozen section showed was benign but they removed all my sex organs anyway. What type of cyst do you have and what are your surgeon's plans? Recovery will depend on the method of surgery as well as what is removed.
They are removing the left ovary and cyst as one. They will be making a bikini line incision. I honestly don't know what type of cyst I have. I didn't even know their were different types until looking into them myself. I do know it's fluid filled and had blood work that ruled out Cancer. This exact cyst ruptured in 2009. It was very painful and I hospitalized for a long time. All I really want is to make to my surgery. I'm walking around scared.. Worried about moving. : (
Your surgery and cyst sound familiar to mine. I had a 14 cm cyst removed through a laparotomy in May. You will need several weeks to recover. My advice is to be sure you ave everything in order before your surgery and arrange for some help afterwards. I stayed in the hospital two nights, then was able to stay alone with people checking on me after I got home. I made arrangements for other people to care for my children for about a week. I was able to drive about 2 weeks after the surgery. I was lucky to not have to return to work right away, I'm a teacher and had the summer off, but I would've needed at least 3 or 4 weeks off before I could've worked.
Good luck to you!
