Hi,
I am 22 years old and just recently was diagnosed with ovarian tumors... About 3 weeks ago I ended up going to the hospital for a ruptured ovarian cyst, an occasional reocurring dilema, when they discovered a large mass via ultrasound which didnt belong. They assumed a large cyst... After doing a CT Scan I was informed that this mass was indeed solid and that there were actually two 8-9cm tumors; one on each ovary... The doctor who I am seeing is recommending an open surgery to remove these unknown masses which she is convinced are benign... She recently told me that I will most likely loose an ovary, and she would like to leave to leave me with at least one, yet seems unsure of how they are attached. This causes me a bit of stress considering my age and inexperience with doctors or their procedures... I have begun writing a list of questions to ask for my pre-op appointment, and would really appreciate some feedback from folks who are/have been in similar situations. Ive never had surgery, and no one in my family has ever had any kind of history regarding this kind of thing. My surgery is scheduled for August 10th so any information on recovery time would be also greatly appreciated. One other question which holds a bit of importance; will having one ovary limit my fertility? And if I were loose both, what should I expect...?
Thanks,
Teashy
