Surgery for Complex Cyst this Friday

I found out today that I'm going in on Friday to have the cyst removed from my ovary.  It is 10 cm complex cyst and my GYN/Oncologist said it probably isn't cancer, but I'm still scared.  It seems like everywhere I turn there is either a show (Dr.Oz) or a newspaper article talking about ovarian cancer.  Its really freaking me out.  On the other hand, everyone I read about or talk too say they have had a ovarian cyst and it was benign.

Ever since I found out about the cyst I've also gone from having no symptoms to feeling tired and having pelvic pressure and lower back pain.

I know that most cysts are benign, but I can't seem to stop worrying.  Throughout the day I'll feel fine and know it's nothing and then I'll suddenly have a panic attack and try to remember if I've had any symptoms over the past few months that I'm forgetting that would be a indicator of cancer.

I really want to go in to surgery with a positive attitude and wake up with good news.  Has anyone else felt this way or gone through this?

I too have had quite a few cyst, some simple, and some complex.  I know how scary it is to go through this.  I hope your doctor will be able to do the surgery laproscopically.  You will have a much faster recovery that if it was done by laparotomy.  I know what you mean about not having as many symptoms until you find out you have a cyst.  I go to see my gyn tomorrow to see if my cyst is enveloped in scar tissue, as it was not see on a CAT scan, but the doctor definatly felt a cyst when doing an exam.  They have a hard time seeing my cysts due to several abdominal surgeries. (10 in 9 years)  I am hoping that surgery can be set up for next week so they can remove the cyst and all of the scar tissue I have.  I am a bit different that you all because I have a condition called Ovarian Remnant Syndrome.  I had "all" of my ovaries taken out, but since they were adhered to my bladder and bowels, small cells were left behind and the ovary keeps regenerating itself.  My advice to you would be to pamper yourself today.  DO something just for YOU.  Also, keep in mind that 99% of ovarian cyst are benign!!!  That is great odds!!  Good luck tomorrow.  I will be praying for you.  WHen you feel up to it, please let us know how you are feeling.

Thanks for the reply.

The Dr. was going to do an open incision because she is taking my ovaries out since I had an hysterectomy about 8 years ago, but when I left her office this week she mentioned that might be able to do it Laproscopically and would look over my CAT scan again to see if that would be possible.

I had no idea that I had a cyst until I ended up in ER over a week ago with severe abdominal pains.  Once you have a hysterectomy, you don't really have normal pelvic exams anymore.  So, I could have had this thing for a long without realizing it.  I have been having a pinching feeling in my left ovary occasionally that would shoot up to my shoulder over the past few years, but it didn't happen often and only happened after I had been with my husband.

I think what happened is the cyst ruptured slightly and that caused the intense pain.  I also noticed that after my pelvic exam this week (where the Dr. showed NO mercy), I've had a lot cramping and lower back pain.  I'm think she probably moved it or irritated it somehow.

On the internet I keep coming back to it being a endometrioma. It seems like I have all the symptoms of that.  I guess I will know for sure tomorrow.

I will be so glad to have this done so I can feel better, but I am nervous to what I'll wake up too.  I really feel that it's benign, but there is always that little voice in the back of your head.

What is your story with your cysts?  How did you find them?  How big are they?

I, too have recently been diagnosed w/ multiple ovarian cysts that are "complex". I'm not sure how old you are, but my Dr. told me that in women who are childbearing age, there is about a 1% chance it's cancer (99% chance it's NOT). How are they removing the cysts? Laproscopically or otherwise? I'll be having that same surgery in about 2 weeks, so I'll be anxious to see how yours goes. I'm sure it'll be fine. I've been anxious too just the not knowing is nerve-wracking! Try not to worry about it b/c there's nothing you can do about it at this point anyway... It'll be fine!!
