Tired of waiting...

About a year ago, I felt intense pain after having sex. I couldn't tell at first where it was coming from, but once it eased up a bit I realized it was coming from my pelvic region. It was so intense, I really don't know how I kept from vomiting. For a few hours, I couldn't even move. That's the first time I can remember it happening.

Since then, I have had many occurrences where sex has been painful. Sometimes during the act, but also afterward. About a month ago, I had an episode that was so excruciating that I actually passed out. I was hurting so badly on my right side that I wasn't even able to lie down...I had to sleep sitting up for two nights. Pain shot through my entire body - I couldn't even breathe properly without intense pain. I was pretty much bedridden with a heating pad for four days, couldn't go to work or anything. Call me crazy, but I didn't go to the doctor then. I've been healthy all my life, so I just assumed that whatever was wrong would go away on its own.

Then two weeks ago, I was at work and began feeling the same pain. Before I knew it, I was on the floor in my office curled up in a ball. One of my co-workers found me, and she drove me to the hospital herself. They didn't do an ultrasound there but told me they suspected I had ovarian cysts.

I made an appt with my family doctor and she arranged for me to get a trans-vaginal ultrasound done. Almost a week went by before I heard anything, but then she called and told me I have a complex cyst on my right ovary. She didn't go into specifics...she only mentioned that there is a possibility of it having to be removed and that I had to be treated immediately.

I have an OB/GYN appt in two days for a pap smear and more trans-vaginal ultrasounds. They were unable to see my left ovary clearly and plan to go in again because I have felt some pain there as well. But what I'm more concerned about is the cyst I already know I have. I have no idea yet what they plan to do, how big it is, or which of the three kinds of complex cyst that it is. They asked during my ultrasound if I have any history of endometriosis, but I honestly don't know.

I guess my question is, have any of you ever had symptoms similar to mine? What happened? And any idea which kind of complex cyst it is?

And actually, the episode I had in December.... I was almost positive that was related to my gallbladder. When I was finally able to lie down, I was only able to do it on my left side. The pain shot through my back all the way up to my shoulder blades. I made up my mind that the next time I felt pain like that again, I'd go to the ER...and when I went I found out it wasn't my gallbladder, it was the cyst.

That's horrible! Do you know if they plan to remove it?

I've been having pain for several years. Mine is all the way up into my ribs. The dr sent me for a gallbladder scan which was negative. Pain persisted. Dr sent me for  another type o scan. Negative again. My hips started to hurt so bad. He sent me for and MRI. 6 months later at my specialist appt with an ortho dr it was mentioned to me that I had a 6.5 cm cyst on right ovary and some fluid in my uterus. Had a repeat scan yesterday and awaiting results of those. I know it's big. I look a pix with my iPhone even though I know I shouldn't. The pain is ao intense sometimes I feel like I'm passing a kidney stone.

Thanks butter...I feel strange talking about it with most of the people I know. I know cysts are common, so people who don't have them tend to think they're not scary. And I know most cysts aren't cancerous so I'm not too concerned about that, but it feels really weird to think I have this mass growing inside of me for who knows how long and I never knew it was there...have you had them before?

I'm so sorry for all the pain you have been going through...I know how bad cysts hurt I'm dealing with the same issue. Simple cyst are just fluid filled, and complex cyst contain solid matter or debris. Try not to worry to much about the type bc when they remove it they will send it to a pathologist and have more info about the cyst then. When you schedule your surgery make sure they do the SILS procedure...it's short for single incision laproscopic surgery where they go in through your belly button and if no complications arise there will be no visible scaring. Alternate procedures can be pretty invascive and leave pretty bad scars. Best wishes BB
