Worried & Waiting...Need Support

To: Waiting & Worrying
Hi Ladies,
I am so thankful for this community.  Thank you for sharing your stories.  I am 31 years old, and for about 6-months I have been experiencing severe PMS symptoms the week before my period.  I just figured that my hormones had changed after having my son and breast-feeding him.  However...this month, two days before my period I became extremely bloated and could not stop burping, as well as feeling run down and achy.  A few days into my period I did feel some relief.  Then my period ended earlier than usual, and was lighter.  That's when I really started to suffer:
First was the urgency to pee frequently...
Then I was nauseas and lost my appetite...
Now I have had those symptoms with diarrhea, weight loss (5lbs), extreme pressure and pain that moves around in my lower abdomen, rectum & thighs, insomnia (because I can't get comfortable) and digestive disturbances for the last week.  The other strange symptom is "spots" on my tongue (like geographic tongue)

I am SO SCARED!  I have an appointment with my OB/GYN for an ultrasound and check-up on Tuesday, but I am going to call and push for them to see me tomorrow.  I just want to know what is going on inside of me so I can get to action.  I can't live like this.  My poor 2 1/2 year old doesn't understand and keeps asking me to play with him.  :-(  I just have to be ok...  It is great to have each other's support through all of this.  All of you take care.

Hi,

Pretty much all you  have listed is what I have gone through for the last 2 1/2 months now and I had an ovarian cyst..which apparently has gone away on its own now..I still have some lingering symptoms.  For the pain ibuprofen 200 mg is what the drs told me to take..maximum of 4 every 6 hours when in extreme pain.  warm baths helped with the pain, and heating pads are supposed to help too..I couldn't stand pressure on my abdomen..hopefully you can.  Try not to freak because its just more stress on your body and muscles.  But do take it seriously.  I hope your situation is quick and over with soon for you! Keep us posted.

I went through something similar.  I had gas pressuse and ulternating from diahrrhea and constipation, with abdominal pains. Started last October.  i thought it would go away.  by Jan. 2011 my pain got worst and so did my constipation.  My Doctor sent me in for a CT scan and found a 6cm cyst on my ovary. He had me take naprosyn (aleve) and Miralax and fiber. Heating pads and warm baths DO help. Good luck!

Thanks for your response!  I am glad that you are on top of things and getting help as soon as the problem crops up.  From my experiences, the cysts do cause a lot of weird symptoms such as back pain, hip pain, butt pain, constipation, bloat and they could be responsible for more.  I am still post op with suture pain but at least I know this time I am healing and the complex cyst is not cancer.  You want to continue to monitor your cysts to make sure they are not complex cysts vs simple cysts. Now that you have a hx of cysts keep on top of them and also check into preventive foods.   Stay  positive and involved!  Take care, Linda

You ladies are the best!  You have no idea how much of a comfort you have been to me.  I tend to always jump to "worst case."  My doctor is out today, but I am still on for my appointment tomorrow.  I also went ahead and scheduled another appointment on Friday with a doctor I have never seen, affiliated with another hospital, in case I want/need a second opinion.  I am going to stay right on top of this.  Thankfully I have a very supportive husband, and my mother is driving three hours to help out tomorrow and Wednesday.

I can't thank you enough for your words.  They have been getting me through this...with less anxiety!
Hugs, Sharon

Ugh!  Feeling miserable tonight.  My day started out ok, so I had gotten hopeful, but tonight is not going well at all.  I just can't get comfortable.  I am scared again.  I am also worried that I won't be able to sleep again.  I need help!  :-(  My appointment is so late tomorrow that if they find something...I have to come home and worry about it all night again.  I am feeling so overwhelmed and consumed with worry that something is seriously wrong.  I just keep praying and praying and praying that everything will be ok.  I know you guys have been there...one way or another...so I thought I would vent.

Hi Sharon, it's normal to feel anxious! I did, I felt like I wanted to cry every other day until each appointment and then I thought that I would get answer I needed but each time I still felt that I didn't know enough and began feeling scared because of not knowing what was really going on inside my body :-/ it's normal!!!! Scarey but normal.
It's better sorted sooner rather then later, I had similar pains as u for 12 years and only just got it sorted 10 days ago by laparoscopy ( because I was too scared of what they might say was wrong with menu didn't go to the doctors about it till a couple of months ago )
Although I feel a lil crap after my op the original pains and aches from before have disappeared! So that's defo a bonus :-) my cyst was size of basket ball and jeeze did that hurt, they also took my left ovary & left Fallopian tube too, but hey ho iv still got the right hand side :-)
Anyway I just wanted to let u know that it's ok to be scared and wanna scream, just let it all out,
Take care and best wishes go with u for tomoro

Thanks so very much, Ladies!  You have no idea how much that means to me.  I just have a hard time believing that non-cancerous cysts and cancerous cysts can have the same symptoms.  I have all of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.  :-(  And they came on so suddenly.  I am driving myself crazy, and I know it only makes matters worse no matter what is going on in there.  I wish I could just relax and rest, but it is not in my nature.  I am a very anxious person.  I hate this!  I honestly feel such love for you ladies.  You are keeping me as sane as possible.  Lots of love!

I know it is easier said than done, but try to relax! I had the pains, frequent urination, irregular bowel movements,i had weight gain, nausea, loss of appetite, hot flashes etc. Ive had the "geographic tonge" but more when im sick, umm the pains, mine where back, hips, thighs, etc more on right side (where the cyst was).

I've had cysts on both sides, had laparocopic surgery april 2010 and drained both ovaries. Post surgery the left side has responded to being on birth control 3 months at a time to help shrink and keep cyst away. In Feb 2011  I had another surgery, laparotomy this time, and I had to have my right ovary removed due to damage of the cyst. My cysts have all been simply fluid cysts.

Try ibuprofen and warm baths/heat pads like the others have suggested, it'll help with some of the discomfort.

good luck with your appt tomorrow! Looking forward to hearing your update, will keep you in my thoghts.

Thank you so very much!  All I want is to be able to get some rest, but here I am...wide awake.  I am just so uncomfortable.  It is not really pain...more pressure and distention.  I am just so scared of the worst case news tomorrow...and at the end of the day, too.  Then what?  I get sent home?!  Ahhhhhhhhhh!  I am going to do my best to get some rest.

I am so sorry for all that you have been through.  That is a lot!  I hope you continue to heal and do well.  I really can't thank you enough for the support and encouragement.  I will let everyone know how tomorrow goes.  Hugs & gratitude!

Oh I know, I always think the worst.. It cant be helped. Easier said than done but try not to stress yourself!! The pressure is certainly annoying, you can always try what i did... when the pressure or pain got too much, id lift my leg, even if i was standing.. it would seem to ease some of the discomfort. .... and if nothing else give the customers and my coworkers something to laugh about when im standing there like a flamingo!

Dealing with ovarian cysts, even if easily treatable, is stil soo very exhausting and stressful. Hopefully for you its resolved soon!

Anytime! Haha I'm glad to make you laugh. It makes me laugh too cause i never realized thats what i looked like til a customer told me. Kind of funny when im standing the middle of the store trying to keep balance with one leg pulled up.

That is better than nothing, i know i didnt get much sleep before appointments either. Good luck!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU!!!  At least I made it to the day of my appointment!  I so wish it were earlier in the day.  I didn't get much sleep at all (once again), but I couldn't have gotten through last night without all of you!  I keep telling my husband that you guys have been such a lifeline for me.  I PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for good news today!  Our health and loved ones are really all that matter in this world.  I would give up everything I have to insure my health and the health or my loved ones.  Anyway...I will try not to feel too anxious today, and I will hope for the best...but of course it will be a long, hard day.  I will definitely keep you all posted as soon as I know more.  Lots of love & gratitude!

Best of luck today. Hopefully you come out with some answers!

Those of you who have cysts did the doctor find them on a pelvic exam?

Thanks so much for your well wishes.  I am PRAYING for answers that include good news!

I have had cysts in the past, but they were only found by coincidence.  Once when I was rushed to the ER for abdominal pain, and then again when I had a bunch of tests done to check my digestive tract.  They obviously resolved on their own.

I just had a pelvic exam in February (3-4 months ago), so if I had a cyst then (that is causing me trouble now) it was missed.

I was first happy when she said everything felt normal. I mean she was in there awhile too! But I am worried she could have missed something.

After the birth of my son my pms got much worse. I never got sore boobs before and now I do. I also never felt ovulation pains but I got that too now. So things do change.

You said you had your digestive tract checked before? Why? I am just thinking if you had issues before you might have them again.

I have THE SAME story!  After I stopped breast-feeding I got PMS like never before.  Sore breasts, run-down, achy, the full week before my period.  I used to feel miserable the day before & the first couple of days of my period, but now it is a full week, and now it is different.

I would have thought it was an IBS flair-up for me this time, but it was different than ever before, and it was centered around my period.  Since I have been having hormonal issues for the last 4-6 months it makes sense that this is a female issue...there are too many other symptoms that I have never had before.  It is so hard.

It is always worth a second look for you.  Dr's and nurses miss stuff all the time.  I already have a second-opinion appointment scheduled for Friday.  I truly believe you can never be too careful when it comes to your health.  Good luck & take care!
