calcium deposits ovary

Should I be concerned about a pelvic ultrasound report that shows tiny calcifications in the left ovary?  Should I have any other testing?  What does this mean?

Hi, I am in distress as ultrasound done on me indictaed echogenic nodule seen in endometrium (1.3 x1.1x0.7cm) with no vascularity.

Cluster of tiny echogenic foci measuring 0.6cm is seen at the periphery of the right ovary could be calcification.  There is also echogenic tiny foci seen in left ovary coul be calcification.

I am told to go for uktrasound after 2 mths.  I have not been well eye bag swell, sudden tummy swell like a pregnant lady and gain weight.

Please so advise what is all this term.  Does it lead to cancer or there is a possibility.

Gratefully Lyn

Dear Kay,
Thank you for your complete information. calcium in and of itself is not a sign of malignancy. Old fibroids will get calcified as they age. Calcium can be commonly present in a benign tumor of the ovary called a dermoid or mature teratoma.  yes, you are right, some ovarian tumors will have a microscopic form of calcium called psammoma bodies. Without seeing the films it is hard to say more. Since decision are being based on your xrays, I would suggest that you ask your doctor if you could get  a second opinion from the radiologist.  Sometimes adding a pelvic MRI can help sort out what kind of cyst it is.
best wishes

Hi , I don,t think you should be overly concerned about this , what has your gynaecologist said about it? .You really need to ask he or she wether further tests are required . I did a quick search on google and didn,t find anything alarming about calcifications but Im not a professional . You need to speak to your gyn to get some more information .

Good luck Best wishes Angie
