Ovarian Cyst?! Maybe?! Help!

Hello everyone!!

Over a year ago, I found a pretty small lump on/near my left ovary. I would've never known it was there if I wasn't digging underneath my skin. If it was a cyst, I felt no symptoms: not painful at all, regular periods, no pain in my abdomen, on birth control, NOTHING. I immediately followed up with a family doctor/gynecologist, who, after feeling it physically and taking my blood for cancerous tests, assured me it was NOTHING. A week later, I went for my annual gynecological visit which, while giving me a pelvic exam, found no masses on either of my ovaries.

HOWEVER, a year later, it's STILL there! It's hard not to worry about it when you touch your left abdomen side only to feel something hard. I'm not sure if it grew, or if it became smaller because I never really paid attention to it.

Does ANYONE know what this may be??? Any comments are GREATLY appreciated!

Well , a couple of things I'd comment on.. Most ovarian cysts, unless they are fairly large, cannot be felt from the outside. The test , which you didn't indicate you had, is the transvaginal ultrasound which can spot even tiny little cysts...

There is no blood test for ovarian cancer. There is a CA-125 which isn't even reliable in premenopausal women because so many other things can cause a high result..

I would see if your Dr. thinks a TVUS is a good idea.. After a year, if it hasn't grown, I wouldn't worry about it.. whatever it is.. That's the only way you'll know for sure if you have a cyst. And if  you do , they are very very common in younger women and 95% are benign.

I don't know if you're aware .. but you have this posted twice. It's likely to cause you and others some confusion. Perhaps MedHelp can delete one for you.

I don't know what this is, but it could be a cyst or maybe some scar tissue? I am bumping this up so that someone else can help you. I would suggest that you ask your gyn doctor for a transvaginal ultrasound so that they can take a really good look.  Tell him it has been a year. Good luck!
