8 yr old w/ovarian cyst

I just found out my daughter has an ovarian cyst after an ultrasound was done. We initially thought it was her appendix. It is 5cm and fluid filled. Any advice anyone can share please? I'm completely surprised as she is not even close to starting puberty.

she had the cyst removed today. It was a dermoid cyst, horrible looking. Dr had to make a 3 in incision to remove it instead od draining it. She has been vomiting and is in pain. This has been a nightmare. I had no clue about all this before we found out she had a cyst. Anyone had a dermoid return after surgery?

I have had cysts in the past. Also the drs just found a complex cyst on my daughters ovary she is 11. From all the research i have done and also from talking to her dr. Simple Cysts which is what it sounds like she has is normal even though she has not "started" does not mean that her hormones are not going crazy in prep for her cycle. You may ask her dr if it is ok for her to take naproxen (alieve). It is what my dr had me take as well as what my daughter is taking and it seems to work better than motrin. I hope that she is feeling better, and I know as a mother it is the most difficult thing seeing your child in pain and knowing that there is nothing you can do. Stay strong and good luck.

Oh, I'm so happy to read that! That's great! Good luck with everything; I hope the cyst continues to shrink down. But I'm glad that at least it's not causing her more pain :) Please keep us posted!

The pediatrician had another ultrasound done on Tues. and the cyst seems to be getting smaller so she will have another one this coming Mon. and he will then determine whether to do a laparascopy on Tues. or not. She is no longer in pain so we're hoping it goes away on its own. I really appreciate all your kind words. I'll let you know what happens on Monday. Thanks so much!

i get fluid filled cysts everytime i ovulate. Motrin is good to use because it is a anti-inflamitory. Also to help with pain, keep her away from caffine, use a heating pad, and have her soak in a bath (as hot as she can handle). This all helps me a little. Sorry shes going through this. Please keep us posted.

It is rare for a young girl that's not within reproductive age to have a cyst. It's quite big already too. They might suggest surgery to drain it out, but luckily, it's only filled with liquid and there are no solid components. I'm very sorry she's going throught his. If it is causing pain, they should drain it out. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask the doctor lots of questions. Cysts are nothing serious most of the time, just a hassle to deal with. I will keep your daughter in my prayers...

We took her to the emrgency room yesterday. She is in pain. At first we thought it was her appendix but after a ct scan and ultarsound the DR at the er told us it's a cyst on her ovary. We're taking her to a gyn tomorrow per referral from the er doc. I googled it and it seems uncommon for a little girl who has nos gins of puberty. We're trying to keep her comfortable w/motrin and tylenol. I will call her pediatrician tomorrow as well. It's just so frustrating to see my little one in pain.

It is a little surprising... what has your Dr. said about this? Usually they monitor these things for a few cycles, but since she isn't anywhere near having cycles ???? I hope someone with some experience with this can shed some light on it. Is she seeing a pediatrician? Why was the ultrasound done ? Was she in pain? Did you try "googling" it? Let us know. I hope she's not in any pain with it..
