full recovery after laparoscopy surgery

I had laparoscopic surgery to remove some endometriosis and i am on my fifth week now. The first two weeks were kind of rough, the third week pain at the incision sites was getting better, and by the fourth week i was walking 20-25 minutes each day. I was comfortable going up and down the stairs, and i did minor things around the house like washing dishes and doing my laundry and stuff. i felt i was getting better and then by the end of the fourth week my incision pain got worse all of a sudden. the pain was so bad i had to go to the ER. the doc did a CT and said my organs looked fine and i had no sign of infection. However, he suggested i get checked by the GYN who did my surgery. The pain around the incision site got better after i rested in bed for three straight days. How long does it take to fully recover from your experience? they tell u 2-3 weeks and i thought i would spring back to normal in that time but i am still home. thanks for all your advices

I am sorry that you are not recovering as fast as you would like too.  When you have surgery, it can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks (Laprascopic surgery is usually 2-6 weeks and Laparotomy is usually 6-8 weeks) but everyone is different.  Maybe you are just doing too much too soon.  Have you been back to your gynecologist yet?  Don't be too hard on yourself.  Your body went through a major trauma.  Just because we look and feel healed on the outside, it takes the inside longer to heal.  I hope you get feeling better soon.  You are in my prayers.

I don't think I did too much, the first three weeks I didn't move from the couch unless I had to use the bathroom or to just walk a bit around the house. the fourth week is when i started moving around. I guess maybe I need more time to heal. I just didn't think I would still be hurting after 6 weeks. Anyway, I will take it easy for the next week and see how I progress. Keep me in your prayers and I will in mine. I hope you feel better soon too!

Thank you for that message, it really helps. Well I'm in my 6th week now and today I went to see the GYN. they injected me with anesthesia where the incision is so that i won't feel the pain. She said it might be the endometriosis but the pain i had from the endo i don't have anymore, it is just the two stitches i have pain from. She told me to take it easy for a few days and see how I do. I am trying to take it easy even though 6 weeks at home is not easy. I was home for two months before the surgery because the Endo pain was too much and I couldn't do anything. Even though I was in a lot of pain the Endo they found was little. Thanks for your prayers I really need them through this difficult time. God Bless He is my strength!

I have some insight and I am very glad to share it on this site. I had laporoscopy on Feb. 15 of this year. I am STILL recovering and not back at work. I over did it the first week and I am paying for it. Be VERY careful as you can develop adhesions if you do too much!!! I am now doing physical therapy and acupuncure/herbs and everything under the sun so i can be back to my old self. It does get better, I promise, but you have to really take it easy. Don't do dishes or even light house work. I could write a book on what NOT to do! My gyno said that I would be up and about in 1-3 weeks, which was misleading, otherwise I wouldn't have done all the things i did. Stay blessed and heal!
