ovarian cyst surgery

Hi

I have just been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst on my right ovary that is 13x7cm.  I have to have surgery to take it out in a couple of weeks.  Its been causing a lot of pain and i just want it out.  The dr said i may loose my ovary too. He said he has no idea which type it is but is being careful because i had cancer when i was younger and one of the tumor markers came back a bit high.  I just wanted to know how fast recovery time is for most people? i am not sure if i am having a scope or open. Also is recovery longer if the ovary comes out? How long is hospital stay? I am worried about how much uni i will miss.  I am 18 .  Also the pain had only been on the right but my left side has started hurting in the same place is this normal for most people?
Any comments appreciated :)

Thanks Luce

Zandersx3,
You case is exactly, what I went through.
Take rest, first week is bit tough. After 4 weeks you will feel much better.

I stayed the night before because i was in an amount of pain, i actually went into the emergency room thinking it was my appendix...the night after i just assumed was routine?  They kept doing blood labs?  Making sure my hh was rising?  I think that was the term they used.  And i more than figured the proper rest was delaying my recovery....lol.  Things are slowly but surely getting better thank you!

Everyone's situation is different, everyone's recovery is a little different. I've even read of women having the same surgery twice, the first time having an easy recovery, the second time, not so easy. Did they say why you had to stay overnight before surgery and after? Usually, laparoscopic is same day surgery although my doctor told me if I were in a lot of pain, I could stay the night in the hospital. It sounded like your situation may have had some complicating factors. And not getting the proper rest will delay your recovery. Sounds like things are getting better for you.

Hi i just had a laproscopic surgery on friday i had went into the hospital the night before and had to stay the night of went home the following morning.  i am just about 6 days into surgery and still have a hard time walking...getting up is starting to get easier finally.  I have a 2 year old so maybe it is because the resting part wasnt as easy for me???  Or i just am really bad with pain!!

I hope everything works out for you and good luck!

I had laparoscopic surgery and my ovary was removed. I felt recovered after 2 weeks, but felt pretty good after a week and could have returned to work or school after a week. I went home the same day I had surgery. Removing the ovary did not prolong the recovery time. For the open surgery, I have read that it takes 6 to 8 weeks to recover and you are in the hospital for 3 or 4 days.
