pain after laparoscopic ovary removal

I just had a second laparoscopy in 5 months (on April 23rd). In the first one, my OBGYN tried to preserve my right ovary by removing 5 cm endometrioma from it and it grew back in a month. This time he took it out together with the tube. I was recovering as expected after laparoscopy and I took it slowly. I also had couple of pain free days. Last week I started having what seems like the same pain as before surgery. I know that ovary is out so that should not hurt. I have endo, but that usually hurts at the time of period... I am not sure what this can be and I am slowly going crazy because pain does not really respond to anything. Anyone had a similar experience and how did it end? I have started lupron to make sure we finish off all the endo, but I am not sure if it is going to help with this pain...

Hmmm, was your hysterectomy total? If so, they have managed to leave some ovarian cells that are causing you trouble? I do not have children and plan is to ttc after lupron and see what happens (I am 38, so yes, I waited little too long). I am not too obsessed with ttc, for me, the most important part is to feel well and then anything is possible.
As for pain, I am pretty much on the same regime as you. Heating pad is my favorite. When is your surgery? I hope this is the last one you'll have.
Thanks for your support, it really helps to talk to someone who can relate.

Unfortunately, I have kinda gotten used to the daily pain, so I am able to overlook some of it.  There are times when I hurt so badly that I just want to cry!!  When that is the case, I just take the vicodine that the doctor gave me.  I honestly don't take it unless I am hurting really bad.  I have a special needs daughter who needs me to be alert when she gets home from school.  When the pain gets intense, I try to lay down with a heating pad and I take Advil (not Tylenol as Advil is also a anti-inflammatory and a pain reliever) and try to rest for an hour or so.  Sometimes if I am able to get a small nap in I feel better.  I did notice over the last week that when I ride in a car for too long I really hurt.  Maybe you could alternate Tylenol and Advil (Tylenol and then 4 hours later Advil and then 4 hours later Tylenol......).  Maybe that would help.  Also a nice hot shower or soak in a hot tub may help.  I'm sorry I'm not more help.  I hope you get the relief from pain that you need.  I am here if you need to talk, and so are many other wonderful women!!

PS I had a hysterectomy when I was 25 and I LOVE it!!  I already had children and was done having them.  It was the best think I could have done for myself.  You will do what is right for you!!  Have faith in making your decisions.

How are you dealing with pain in the meantime? I do not seem to respond to anything except narcotics and I cannot be taking that constantly.
I was feeling the best on birth control pill (seasonelle, 1 period every 3 months) but I could not longer take them because they made my fibroids grow. That was the only cyst and endo pain free period!
If Lupron does not help, only left option for me is to take everything out. I am weighing that option as well but I would not survive one more surgery that does not relieve me of this pain. I think I would just go crazy! When is your surgery?

Since I chose not to do the Lupron, my treatment is repeat surgeries.  I did not do well on birth control pills, and just didn't want to take the chances with the Lupron shots.  I am due to have surgery for a complex ovarian cyst that seems to be growing quickly.  It started out as 5cm.  Two weeks later it was at 8cm (that was April 8) and i have not been seen since.  I go on June 3rd for my pre-op appointment.  I'm sure she will do another exam then.  It will be interesting to see if it has grown more.  I just want the pain over with!!  Please let me know how you do on the Lupron.  I'm glad your doctor is being honest with you about them.  My old gyn told me that there were no side effects of Lupron except menopause symptoms.  I'm glad I did my research before jumping into anything.

Yes, it is amazing what we girls need to go through... I was refusing Lupron up to now, but I am running out of options after surgeries did not help much. My OBGYN gave me progestin as an add back therapy to help with Lupron side effects. It is till to early to tell about Lupron as I got my first shot last Friday. Doctor was as disappointed as I was in lack of progress after surgery and he hopes Lupron will help. I can only hope. I am still trying to figure out how they managed to take 5 cm cyst and ovary through those small incisions. So what is one to do with your condition? Thanks for your reply!

I'm so sorry that you have had 2 surgeries in the last 6 months.  I am sorry to hear that you are taking Lupron.  My old gynecologist wanted me to take Lupron, but after I did my research, I found that there were way too many side effects of it (that is just me).  I do know that Lupron can cause a lot of different pains (joint pain, headache, body aches, etc).  It is possible what you are feeling is just your body healing on the inside.  There is also a condition called Ovarian Remnant Syndrome (which I have ) where if there are any cells left behind the ovary can regenerate itself and develops cysts.  It seems pretty quick for that to happen, but it can.  It can also be scar tissue developing.  Your best bet would be to call your gynecologist and let them know what is going on.  Good luck and please keep us posted on how you are doing.
