pain

Hi, Iam 45 years old. 2 years ago, I had a endometrial biopsy for irregular bleeding.Everything turned out fine.
I have been having irregular periods since the summer. ( heavier bleeding for a few days, cramping, which I never had before, and longer periods.) In Oct, I had my annual exam, and the Doctor ordered sonograms. She said that I have a 1cm cyst on my right ovary. She did a ca125 test, which turned out fine.I have to have more sonograms in January.
Before I had the sonogram, I wasnt having any pain. Now, I am having a dull ache in my right ovary, ever since I found out that I have a cyst.  My question is do you ladies have pain/ discomfort all of the time, or just during your period?
Iam so glad that you have this board. It makes me feel that Iam not so alone in this! Thank you for your time.

Hi there,
I agree with Sandy. I think we become more conscious of the aches and pains when we know there is something that could be causing them. Your story has some of the same characteristics of mine. I too am 45 and my peroids became irregular, mostly occuring more frequently. I had enodmetrial biopsies, and ultrasound after ultrasound. It is all very standard so to say when a cyst is present. Many of the cysts will just resolve themselves and go away. Then there are those stubborn ones like I had. Mine just wouldn't vacate the premisis. They continued to grow and change and finally my doc said they had to come out. My doc suspected endometriosis amongst other things so he said if that was the case, I needed to have the ovaries removed as that is the source of estrogen that feeds it. Im not saying this is the case for you, but this is just my experience.
Take comfort in knowing that most cysts will go away. Take a look at the health pages and educate yourself.
We are here for questions as we have all been through it and know what a scary process it is.

Sometimes I think when we're aware of something "not right" we focus on it a little more. I did have pain in the ovary which is what brought them to do the TVUS, but afterwards I was still very conscious of every little twinge. That's a very small cyst, so try not to worry too much. It sounds as though they're watching you closely and in January, the cyst may be totally gone .. Cysts are very common and 95% benign. The usual protocol is exactly what they are doing for you-- watching and waiting for a few cycles. .

You may like to check out the "Health Pages " at the top right of this page. There is a lot of information about cysts..

Take care and keep us posted,
Sandy
