It's a bit different under the UK health system than it is here in the US. I've heard of women in Canada, which has a health system similar to the UK, having to wait months before they are able to get in surgery.

If it frustrates you, write to your local politician... unfortunately it's tied up in a bunch of red tape and not really up to the doctor.

On October 28 I was told I will need surgery to remove a cyst.  I was told today (November 3) that my surgery will be on December 17.

From what I understand, it just depends how booked up the doctor and the hospital are.

It depends.  Where do you live?  In the US or another country?

Will the doctor that recommended the surgery be performing it or are you being referred to another specialist?  It is usually the doctor that will be doing the surgery that schedules the surgery with the hospital.  It could be scheduled a few days away, weeks or months depending of what was requested.  You may want to get in touch with your doctor for answers.
