Right side/flank pain

I have experienced right side pain for over a year. I have been to the Dr 2 times and after the last CT scan was told that I had a kidney stone.

I am wondering if having a kidney stone would cause or be a possible cause of my pain. It is constant. Cannot lay on my right side without discomfort.

I also have irregular bowel movements that change from flat stool to ribbon like stool, to normal stool, to diarrhea. No blood. So am curious if IBS is possible.

Just looking for pain relief or ways to treat since the Dr's have said no big deal.

All blood tests came back fine. Here is my CT scan results:

FINDINGS: Clear lung bases.  Normal heart size.  Normal noncontrast
appearance of liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and adrenals.  Punctate
density at the mid/inferior interpolar region of the right kidney best
perceived on coronal reformat, series 300, slice 52, suspicious for tiny
nonobstructing stone.  Mild heterogeneity at the lateral cortex of the left
kidney is difficult to characterize without contrast, but could represent
cyst.  No hydronephrosis or perinephric stranding.  No ureteral calculi.  The
bladder is decompressed. Minimal diverticulosis without inflammation.  The
bowel loops are normal in caliber.  No retroperitoneal adenopathy.  No free
fluid.  Intact osseous structures.

IMPRESSION:

Tiny nonobstructing calculus, right mid-inferior kidney.

Minimal diverticulosis without acute evidence for acute diverticulitis.

Possible left renal cyst.

The remainder of the examination is unremarkable.

Is this good news?

Side pain for a while than ultrasound today with these results:

FINDINGS: Multiple images obtained lateral mid abdomen in area
of palpable abnormality.  In this region, there is relatively
well circumscribed area measuring 1 x 3 x 1.7 cm which is
isoechoic to adjacent fat.  Comparing to prior CT of the abdomen
performed 02/01/2011, no focal abnormality is seen within this
region.

IMPRESSION:

Relatively well circumscribed lesion isoechoic to fat, likely a
lipoma. As stated no abnormality seen on recent CT.  Followup
based on clinical evaluation.

Hi James,

I am so sorry that your post has gone unanwsered. I missed it and I bet others did too when you added to it....it looks like someone responded to you. So please forgive my tardy response.

Going to your physician twice in two years is not really a lot. I encourage you to see a urologist and a gastroenterologist. They can do more extensive testing and hopful explain the pain you are experienincg.

No a small non-moving kidney stone should not produce constant pain, anywhere. Again please seek additional opinions.

Yes it could be IBS but it could be a multitude of other conditions. I wish you the very best and hope you will find a resolution to your pain. Please let us know how you are doing.

Best of Luck and Take Care,
~Tuck
