If your unhappy with your doctor then you can, and should, find a doctor that suites your needs bettter. You should be allowed to find a new doctor. The key is to find a replacement before leaving the doctor your unhappy with, so you won't have a lapse in your pain management regimene. I I'm not sure about your "pill count" question, I think I know what you mean though. If you are cancelling the agreement by not following the rules in the agreement, then that would be cancelling the agreement wouldn't it? If you need more of, or a different strength of your medication(s), then you should bring that up with your doctor BEFORE taking your medicine any way other than it was prescribed to you. My pain managment doctor doesn't count pills, but also won't change any prescriptions unless it's on the day of your normal monthly appointment. Good Luck to you,
sean
Ps.-My apologies if I was off-base in regards to the pill count question...
The pm clinic I go to, doesn't even ask about my pills. I provide a copy of what I take and they just take my word for it. IF I ever had to justify my medications I would drop the doctor like a hot potato. If they prescribe it, they are just going to have to take my word for it. Outside of that, I would move on to another doctor if you have to 'justify' what you are taking and what you need. Just my opinion.
I have found my pain management doctor is willing to give morphine for pain when I request shots (trigger point injections) but she believes in doping up her patients apparently. I DON'T!
okay I'm noy gonna beat around the bush here.....basically I have no pain meds left my prescription from my current doc doesnt expire until dec. 21st.....so that's my dilema ,,,,will my current doc wantto see that i have my pain meds nefore i cancel my contract and will my new doc want to see them? Also can my new pain doc write me a prescription before I cancel my agreement with my pcp........this is my first pain clinic visit and I think I screwed myself already!
I'm sorry for the poor grammer I'm trying to write from a ****** smart phone!
you can start unscrewing yourself with a magical action called Telling The Truth. If you want to screw things up to the point where there is no return then go lie to each doc and make a web that will only trap YOU.
It is worse than an empty pill container----take a breath and look your doc in the eye and tell himher just what happened and ask what yopu can do.
That's it! That easy. no story to keep straight. Dude---no worries once ya do it. OK??TRUTH?? Yes Yes Yes keep posting omhome
I was thinking just telling my pcp that I flushed them because they were;.t working and I wanted to cancel my pain contract, then moving on to my new pain management doctor! WIll this work?
your pcp has heard it all. i flushed them is one they have heard over and over. how long ago were u prescribed this med? what type of pain med is it? how long have u been seeing this Dr for this condition? i may have some answers for you but need a little more info. since u r seeing a pcp maybe they aren't given u the right med or not enough of the med. post back maybe i can help... as my pcp didn't want to help me at all and i finally requested a pm Dr and have had major relief!!!
what part of tell the truth did you miss? Jelly's right--they have heard it all---and have lie-detector built in from hearing so many stories. And the lies follow you everywhere your medical record goes---permanent. Your choice. omhome
I just wanted to comment that I think the pain doctor is definitely entitled to know how many pills they have prescribed and how many you have taken. There are many abusers out there and in the state I live in, Florida, doctors are catching hell for prescribing too much. I take my pills in every time I go for a visit and they have trusted me so much now that they don't even ask to see them, but I have them there if needed. I also take random drug tests. (urine). Doesn't bother me at all because I am not an abuser. I am not saying that you are but I do believe you need to be honest with your doctor and with yourself.
we're just trying to help. If you will ever really need pain meds there is one major rule above all. Truth.
Look I screwed up okay, give me a break i was prescribed ocycodone 5mg 2pills 4 times a day... Im going to see my new pain managment doctor on the tenth and canceling my agreement with my pcp....If he asks where the pills went I'll say I flushed them....what can he do ??? I'm CANCELING my contract not asking for more
and I really do need pain meds....I just have a built tolerance from abusing them in my younger days,,, this is something I cannot help...So I had to take double of my medication for it to even slightly work......Do you think I should bring the opiod abuse when i was younger up with my pain doc, or just leave it be?
I never did heroin just snorted about 9-12 30 mg roxies a day, which I know I will never be prescribed again....That doctors office lasted 6 months, let's put it that way!
thank you for being a pain managment angel...you really inspire me!
I broke my pinky finger last year and can barely type without it.....I really do need these meds!
If you do go to another doctor make sure the new prescription isn't for the same medication, otherwise it will show up on the prescription monitoring system that you still have (should have) a supply left from your other prescription. You really should watch yourself so you aren't in this situation again.
The prescription CAN be for the same medicine, just not the same strength as your previous prescription..............
OKay thank you shinty , the 10mg oxycodone was prescribed from veterans affairs so I doubt I'll have a problem there. There was no problem in cancelling my pain agreement i told doc i destroyed the meds and he said okay wasn't as big as deal as I thought it was going to be. I just hope I didn't make a mistake and now get prescribed some junk like vicodin or something. I need atleast oxy 15's 6 times a day but how do you tell your doctor that without looking like a pill seeker?
and like I said on here...I know I made a mistake with my last prescription so don't scrutinize me. I think I just need to hide the fact that I'm on pain killers from friends and family members , because it's a non-stop process of them bugging me for them and I always give in
I just don't understand why people pay so much for these pills on the street either. Why don't they just go to the doctor and say they're in pain. The doctor has to believe you even if you aren't. I mean go get your own pain pills for christs sake!
and my real medical problem is 8 screws and metal in my ankle ....and pretty much destroyed it with my past 4 years of military service

Your family and friends should be told that it is illegal for them to take prescription pain medication that is not prescribed for them, that it could be dangerous for them to do so, and that you need them for what they were prescribed for. You served in the military for four years- be tough in your resolve to do the right thing when it comes to your family and your own taking of them.
What you might want to do is try is weening down on how much pain medication you are taking by using something like acupuncture and prescribed herbal medication.
I'm not armed forces material and also have a low pain threshold, but went off everything except some gravol OTC for how sick I felt for chronic, dehabilitating, out of control migraines while I was getting acupuncture treatment for seven weeks.
Getting all those pain meds flushed out of the system if you can take it, might actually get you to the place where the medication will actually become more effective for when you need it. My body had built a tolerance to Demerol and I also was taking Excedrin Migraine, Fiorcet with and without Codeine, etc.. Tylenol extra strength wouldn't touch the pain of my migraines. I did more acupuncture of a different sort after those seven weeks because I was still having multiple migraines andI took prescribed Chinese herbs. I got to the place where extra-strength tylenol actually could do something, which was amazing to me!
