Random UA when I went to family Dr. for paper MS Contin refill

I have been on MS Contin for almost 6 years now,due to a major car accident that caused ruptured disks and a whiplash injury in my neck.I pick up my  paper script every 30 days....never once have I tried to get an early script.I had to submit a UA at random recently before getting my script. Why is this? How long before I get the results and what will they show? I was told NOTHING in the Dr's office.I have been takink my mother's darvocet and vicodin for the last few days due to running out of my script. Will all of this show up as opiates?I am terrified!!Thank you very much for you quick response.

Thank you all for your informative advice.I went to get my (long-acting) MS Contin paper refill three days later and was asked to submit a SEDOND UA test. They tested it on the spot and said my number hadn't been 20 the 1st time and was this 2nd time.I was given my script and sent along my way.To answer you Q...yes,Ive been through WD's.I have been taking some form ff an opiate for about 8 years now.A noose around my neck that will eventually kill me....but I obviusly like the feel of a noose tugging.Sick,I know.Addicted,I know.May God help us all.

Everything will depend on the type of test they run on your urine. Most tests screen simply for 'opiates' and not a specific opiate. that being said, there are more detailed and much more expensive tests that can test for specific opiates, in this case you could have some problems.

I know this because I regularly hire new people and I drug test them before hiring them.

Our test simply tests for 'opiates; and illicit street drugs. Meaning that ANY opiate taken would result in a positive test. I hope for your sake that this is the same kind of test your Dr's office is carrying out.

Best of luck.

i agree with everything everyone has said above...you may be in  a world of trouble if enough time had not passed between the time you took those other meds & the UA. Also, since you ran out early, there will be no M S Contin in your system which will also raise a red flag. Are your prepared for WD? have you been through WDs before? Educate yourself and get ready in case you get cut off immediately.  GOod luck  and keep us posted.

Sorry. You have every right to be concerned. It is my opinion that the meds you took without a prescription will show up in your drug screen. You physican may refuse to treat you or at the very least refuse to prescribe narcotics for you.

Everyone has to be aware rather they are being treated by a PMP or a PCP that you can and probably will be required to submit to a drug screen. No matter what the circumstances do not take anything that is not prescribed by your physician. Additionally be diligent in taking the amount prescribed, no more no less.

Our physicians trust us to follow their rules and take only order for us. When we betray that trust we risk losing pain management. They have rules and regulations imposed upon them by the DEA and cannot treat a suspected abuser or they risk losing their licenses. I wish I could be more encouraging but I am trying to give you my honest opinion. I hope you don't lose your physican along with your pain management.

Good luck to you.

How long was it between your last vicodin and or darvocet before your test? Like RunningMom said, it takes 1-3 days to get out of your system. If you know they are going to show up I would get in to see your doctor and be upfront and honest with him/her. If your pain is not being controlled properly you need to let your doctor know so you can take a different approach. If you are honest with him he may work with you. If you hide it and he does find something not prescribed in the test he may drop you as a patient. Some doctors will give tests to make sure you are taking your meds as there are some that continue to get them to sell on the streets for a profit.
As for how long it takes for a test to come back I'm not real sure. It really depends on if it gets tested right there or if it has to be shipped off somewhere. I know with work I get tested through the MOST program. I live in IL but it is mailed off to CA. If they find anything in our system they call to verify that we have a valid script. This happened to me last time as I was on pain meds from my doctor and it took about a week from the time I took the test and the time I got the phone call.
Hope this helps and best of luck.

Okay, I just read you went to the family doctor.  Maybe he suspects your taking something illegal?  Normally family doctors do not like to prescribe strong narcotics to chronic pain patients and he wants to make sure that your not taking anything other then he is prescribing.

Yes, the other opiates will most likely show up.  I believe the vicoden and darvocet stays in your system for 1-3 days?  Random urine tests are standard in every pain management clinic.  My pain contract states I must be prepared at every visit to take a urine test.  If I refuse the drug testing and if there is anything that I'm not suppose to have in my system, I will be tapered from all medications and let go from the pain management clinic.  I make sure I follow the rules to a T.
