I frequently have elevated liver enzymes. There are many causes, some more serious than others. Many OTC medicines can cause it, such as Ibuprophen and tylenol. Also, I have had my gallbladder removed but have post-cholesystectomy syndrome. If I have had a bad spell of pain with nausea and vomiting they are usually elevated. The doc says that sometimes dehydration will cause a greater concentration in the blood. Many pain meds will cause me to have a flare up and I end up in worse pain than before. Don't give up. If this doc isn't able to help you, try someone else. One thing I have learned is to be my own advocate.
has he checked your gallbladder?
Hello Cindy,
I am sorry to hear about your pain. Can you share with us your physician's opinion on your symptoms and liver function tests? Elevated liver enzymes can cause the symptoms you are describing. Why these enzymes are elevated must be determined by your physician.
I assume you are also frightened and concerned which increases your anxiety levels which in turn increases your pain. I imagine your PCP is very reluctant to treat your pain and symptoms until the cause is determined. However you might want to ask for a muscle relaxer and anti-emetic....if you aren't already being prescribed these meds. I am not sure how those will effect the liver but your physician will be able to best guide you.
We here to support you. Hopefully one f our members will have more information that I have for you. If you just want to vent or chat please feel free to do so. I also hope you'll keep us updated.
Best of Luck,
~Tuck
