I too had the same problem with neurotin when I first started on it...my dr had to very slowly increase my dosage over months. Now 8 months later I take 2400mg a day ( i have rsd in both hands) , it has definitely helped with the pain. Sometimes it takes your body time to get used to med'sj..especially if your not used to taking any Take care and let us know how you are doing...Tresa
I have taken both Neurotin and Lyrica. Both make me feel as if I am on a high and walking on cotton. They make me so dizzy that I can't walk without running into walls. As far as sleep goes? I could NEVER sleep on these drugs because my bed was spinning and it made me nauseated. Although my pain was much better while taking it, I had to stop because I am trying to keep a job and couldn't remember anything while taking it.
everyone has some good information - as tuck said we are all different and react differently to every medication. I haven't taken Neurotin, but I have taken Lyrica which is very similar. Like viningspain said, I had to start out on a low dose and gradually increase.
Can they lower the dosage and ramp you up on it more slowly. I took it for awhile and remember I had to get up to 3 pills 3 times a day. It took me about 2 months to get to that level and while I felt "goofy" I didn't have the extreme reaction you did. Unfortunately, you have to be at a certain level (I think 600 mg) before it has any beneficial impact.
I wish you the best. It would be nice for you to have something that helps besides Vicodin.
I think every one reacts differently to medications. What works very well for one person may not work at all for another.
I beleive every post here. I too Neurontin for awhile also. It didn't make me sleepy. In fact it did nothing at all for me. My mother takes it with good relief from nerve entrapment, although it effect her memory. I had to play with the dose for sometime (with MD's approval) to get it right. She does very well on it now.
I was on it for 3-weeks prior to surgery and the drug did nothing for my pain. However, I am back on it post surgery from a D-cetomy back surgery. The drug is helping me with the pain and healing the nerve.
I am here to say I believe it can happen. mine wasnt that bad for I knew when i got home and found my bed.
I wonder if it is a mixture of other meds ? the ofiice said no and to eat extra protein and drink a lots of water.
i dont think this will be any help a dr put me on ot for my back for pain mangement...after the second or third dose i dint know where i was who my kids where it messed me up.. i told the dr about it and he said that theres no way that could have happened well it did and he pretty much called me a liar so i never went back to him
