Hello Needtoknow,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum.

Obviously there are reasons for "nodding off" besides opiate usage. You provide no additional information so it's difficult for me to speculate.

If you are concerned that you have an underlying condition that is causing your sleepiness your best bet is to consult your physician. Please feel free to share additional information with us.

Take Care and Good Luck,
~Tuck

I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you some causes of what can cause nodding off according to the Harvord Family Medical Book.

1. Being over-tired
2. Not being interested in the topic (or having trouble concentrating)
3. Specific neurological diseases, such as ADD, ADHD, autism, etc.

Now, I nod out a lot. I personally have an electrolyte disorder, meaning my kidneys pass too much salt out of my body (we don't know why they do this). This causes me to faint and pass out and all that sort of stuff. You can tell you have an electrolyte embalance because you're constintly light-headed or dizzy, especially if you stand up too fast or when you're on the stairs. Of course, I've felt randomly out of it while just sitting at a desk doing homework.

Now, I can't say that you "do" or "do not" have an electrolyte problem. But I would reccomend trying some ways to get your electrolytes up for a little while. Specific SoBe LifeWater Zero and Gateraid say on the bottle that they have electrolytes in them. Another really good source is pickles (yes, pickles).

If this keeps going, however, I would reccomend seeing a doctor.
