I think going to a urologist is the correct move. I have lower right flank pain, just below my rib cage. CT scan, X Ray, MRI and blood tests did not disclose a thing. I am convinced it is kidney stones, which did show up in CT scan but they said they shouldn't bother me because of where they are. Yeah, right. I am in pain and it is depressing. So I went to a pain management doc who gave me an epideral cortisone shot which helped until the lydocain wore off now it hurts more than ever. I have no other symptons, no fever, no infrequent or frequent or painful urination. Don't give up, get to the urologist. Did they do your CT scans with or without contrast??
It is awful to get tests in that area!
I remember being distended in th eoffice the first time and screaming for them to stop because it was so painful.
I'm glad your going to check it out.
Just one other note. For some reason(they dont know tons about IC yet) IC has a high correlation to autoimmune conditions, endometriosis(which i think might be autoimmune), pelvic floor disfunction, IBS and a bunch of other things like sensative skin and sun sensativity.
Most people with IC have at least one other condition along with it.
Let me know what you find out.
But also know that if you feel something is really wrong and they say everything is fine, get a second opinion.
I was told by my Uro the first time that I dont have IC even after the in office distention. 6 months later low and behold, it was found by the same guy who said it wasnt there.
DR's can make mistakes and over look things. Especialy when it comes to IC.
Good luck!
Thanks for all the info, I'll have to make an appointment with my uro to see if they distended my bladder. I know they looked for bladder cancer. The reason for all this is I have an auto-immune disorder called sarcodosis. With it I get chronic kidney stones, I've had over 100. I was having a bunch of stones, but was bleeding like crazy and they felt it was way too much bleeding for kidney stones so they wanted to look at my bladder for cancer. I've assumed it was clear as they never said anything, and they would have if there was a problem. I'll get a look at the records and see what they did and then I'll pm you. I'm glad it's under anesthesia because I hae been scoped and basketed and you name it and my poor uretors are sore. I hate anything I have to have done down there now.
Boxer, With IC many times people have the symptoms before the pgysical evidence. What you need to request is a bladder distention under anestesia. If your cystoscopy was done in office, they did not fill your bladder to capacity thus missing the the signs of IC. Under anestitia they stretch the bladder to capasity which then may show pin point bleeding. A difinitive sign of IC. If you did have the cystoscopy under unestetia there is no garentee that they distended your bladder.
That is the only way to get a diagnosis.
More times than not chronic bladder "infections", undiagnosed abdominal pain and frequent urination is an undiagnosed case of IC. Many people wait more than 5 years for a diagnosis and get sent from DR to DR.
I was sent from gyno to uro bavk to gyno and again back to Uro with a gastrointerologist and about 20 ER visits before i got a diagnosis.
If you want you can message me personally and I will give you the name of my IC blog.
Your history sounds like mine. I started with the pain and after trying a bunch of different things, did a laproscope and said I had endo and cysts. Then later they took out my left ovary, then had a cyst that ruptured and I ended up with peritinitus and had surgery. Months later more bleeding ended up with an emergency hysterectomy. Now, I have what feels like a constant bladder infection. Sometimes I do have an infection, but when I could swear I did, then I don't, but boy does iit feel like it. I have had 2 cystoscopies and they never said anything about IC, but I've sure wondered if I had that.
thank you again. i get the patient bat around my pcp says to go see a gyn, the gyn said to go see a surgeon the surgeon said to go see my pcp and now my pcp says to go see a urolagist since i saw a gastro doctor last year. RGHHHH why cant anyone just figure it out and FREAKING FIX ME> i must say the ER spends more time trying to fix me than my doctor does.
My dr specializes in deep tissue pain, maybe thats something you should look into.
I'm glad I could help! IC feels like UTI's and they chalk it up to that al the time.
Make them give you a bladder distention or if they wont find a Uro who will. BM's can also hurt with IC and you could even have IBS on top of it all. They all go together, unfortunitly!
They may do it in the office or they may put you under.
I'm always around if you need anything or any advice on how to get diagnosed and what to say to your DR about IC. It can take a while to get a diagnosis soemtimes
thank you very much... im going to call the doctor and see about the urologist. i urinate WAYYYYY to much to be normal and i have talked to them about this but they said it was a UTI so they didnt know. alot of the things you said with the Interstitial Cystitis are alot of my symptoms. it does get much worse when i have to urinate or have a movement. (TMI I KNOW LOL) I also do have endometriosis in my right ovary so i do get cysts every month then they rupture and i do ovulate still but normally it only hurts when i ovulate. i am no where near ovulating again and it is hurting almost worst than ever before. Good luck!
Have you ever been checked out by a urologist? Many woman who have unidentified pain may have soemthing called Interstitial Cystitis. It is a painful bladder condition that causes rips and tears in your bladder which causes alot of oain in your abdomen back and sometimes your legs. It can cause urinanry frequency and pain when you void. But Some women dont have urinanty symptoms at all and just pain. I was thinking matbe endometriosis but you have has a patial Hystorectomy wich means they have seen inside you abdomen. Also if you dont ovulate endometriosis stops growing. But if you do still ovulate(I dont know much about partial hysto's) endometriosis could also be a possibility.
I wish I had more suggestions for you. When I started having pains in my abdomen I began to get cysts every month. They would always rupture and cause terrible pain. Alot of women say that before they were diagnosed with IC they started getting cysts.
Hope they can find out whats going on soon
