Formal diagnosis

Hello...I'm 30 years old, I was on birth control pills for 12 years, stopped taking them one year ago b/c we are ttc...only got one period on my own since, and dr. thinks I have PCOS...I have tried 2 cycles of clomid, 50mg...with no luck.. now must try 100mg clomid to ttc...in May I had an ultrasound and dr. said I had cysts on my ovaries.. and it looked like "there wasn't much going on, in terms of ovulation". My question is how do you formally diagnose pcos? Any advice on what I should do next..any thoughts?

Yes, I will do that..in terms of my infertility though, does a diagnosis of pcos change the course of action the Dr. will take to help me? Have you had children with pcos? If so, did you get pregnant on your own?

Still could be pcos. Women with pcos don't need to have every symptom that goes with it in order to have pcos. I suggest for you to see your doctor, get some blood taken and go from there. You have the # 2 symptoms that are assicated with pcos, irregular periods and cysts.

Well your periods are irregular ( # 1 symptom of pcos), are you somewhat overweight?

Other symptoms include but are not limited too:

excess hair (mostly on face, like peach fuzz but sometimes heavy black hairs on chin, heavier on upper lip), skin discolorations (darken skin) (on creases of neck, groin area and under arms), weight gain, carry most weight in the lower stomach area, Infertility, Thinning Hair, Acne and Depression and Anxiety.

If you have any of those symptoms, then you could have pcos. The cysts are also part of it too.

Hi.. no I haven't gotten my tubes checked.. I've taken prometrium to induce my period several times but not consistently... they did take blood in Feb. but I do not know the results of that...you mention metformin but I don't know if I have any other symptoms of pcos other than cysts on ovaries...

Has your doctor given you any blood tests? Too me if your doctor told you that you have allot of cysts on the ovaries and doesn't appear that you are ovulating then to me it's a no brainer. You might want to address the issues of maybe going in for some blood work to check hormone levels, also bring up to your doctor that it might be PCOS. You might need metformin (it helps reduce symptoms of pcos) and clomid to get pregnant. Did they check your tubes to make sure nothing is blocked? Since your not getting a period on your own, are they medically induced? Meds like Provera? Are you taking anything like that? I would sought to a second opinon to help with ttc issues.
