A Scare of My Own

Yesterday I spent most of 13 hours on my feet, completing my last day of clinical training for my nursing school (good news is, other than a little paperwork, I am DONE and should be able to test later this month).

On the way home, I stopped to grab a salad to eat and noticed I was spotting. It wasn't a lot but I also had some cramps. The blood was dark and mostly random clots. I called my doctor and she told me to come in today rather than head to the hospital (I was actually on my way to hospital when she returned my call).

Good news is that baby is fine. She did an ultrasound (trans-abdominal) and heartbeat is clearly visible :) My cervix is closed. She did confirm it IS placental matter that is coming out. She also did a trans-vaginal ultrasound and my placenta is so low, she can't even get a good view of the baby that way.

So, good news, baby is okay. Bad news, I have a low lying placenta. I am now on complete pelvic rest and will see her every two weeks. Chances are that by my third trimester the placenta will be in a better position. If not, I may have to have a c-section as vaginal delivery can be dangerous with high risk of hemorrhage.

That's a good thing that it's not a complete block.  Amazing how are bodies have ways of telling us to take it easy when we are pregnant.  Keep us updated and let us know when that placenta gets out of the way :D

On my 2nd pregnancy my waters must have just been close to the surface because I had a lot of leaking and then one day because of exercise I think, they busted open about week 37.  I never went into labor.  So had to take it easy, stop exercising for a bit, and my waters sealed back up on their own. ( had to be super careful during this time ofcourse)  They were so strong when they sealed back up they had to be busted during my labor.

She isn't calling it more than a low lying placenta at this point.

I had some brief spotting again today when (without thinking about it) I took the stairs at school. I ALWAYS take the stairs at school but I haven't been to the school for a few weeks and didn't give it a thought :( I went to the bathroom before I left and noticed some dark red/ brown clots. I didn't have anything after that, thankfully. Will remember to take the elevator from now on.

so glad the baby is ok ChristineMP.  From what I was reading women that encounter this the position usually changes in about 2 months, did she say it was a marginal placenta previa?  Keep us updated.  Congratulations on getting your training done, that is a huge accomplishment.

Thank you, Kricket :) I haven't had any spotting since that night and I am being very careful about my activity. Hopefully, the placenta will grow away from my cervix soon :) I REALLY do not want a c-section or to be on pelvic rest for the next 6 months.
