Concerned that I can't find heartbeat with doppler...

I am 12w4d pregnant with identical twins and I am concerned that I can't find their heartbeats with my Babybeat doppler for the last day and a half.   I have found them consistently since I was 9 weeks.  I had an u/s 3 days ago that was an hour long and they checked everything and said both babies looked great.  That evening I got a horrible stomach bug..(no fever) which lasted 2 days and since then, I have not been able to hear their heartbeats.   I hear my own heartbeat any place I put the doppler, but I can't hear the babies.   There are a lot of bowel sounds and gurgling from my stomach bug, so I don't know if that could interfere with being able to hear the babies??

I know I should call my doctor but I am not ready for them to do an u/s and tell my my babies are gone.   They wouldn't be able to do anything to save them at this point anyway, and I just don't think I am prepared to hear horrible news yet.  I just wondered what you guys thought.  Would you be freaking out if you were me??   I haven't had any cramping or bleeding, by the way.    Thanks so much.

Yesterday at my midwife, she couldn't find the heartbeat with a fetoscope even though I'm 23 weeks. She still had to bring out the doppler, and even that took awhile! It's a bit nerve-wracking, but try to trust that everything is ok. If the placenta is anterior, that will also make it harder to hear the baby as the placenta gets bigger!

I completely agree with the other's comments.  I can't tell you how many times I couldn't find my little one's heartbeat until he was much bigger.  I still sometimes have to play for awhile to find it and I am 30 weeks.  It can be difficult as early as you are.

Don't worry! I was one of those that was listening to my own for 2 weeks up until 14th week when i realized i was doing it wring.  Start LOW between the pelvis bones and move the doppler in and out from one spot.  You Will hear the galloping horses!

Try not to worry-I am curently 17 weeks and at 15 weeks I went in for a routine appt and my OB couldnt' even find the baby's heartbeat, so we had to do an ultrasoud.  He told me the dopplers are not very consistent and if the babies are sleeping or in a compromisng position they will not pick it up.  I wish you the best of luck.

Same here, I have had occasions where I couldn't find my son's heartbeat, and I guess he was just positioned in such a way as to make it really difficult. Try having some ice water, or doing some light exercise then check again! (Chocolate milk always seems to get my little guy moving, too!)

I would continue trying at random times during the day. I know with my doppler there are times throughout the day that baby cannot be heard - i guess from positioning. I am 21 weeks now and also find it more difficult to find the HB that I did at 12 weeks. I would not stress out - if you had an ultrasound a few days ago then chances are things are still just as fine as they were a few days ago. Don't panic and try again. :)

Don't panic : )  Your little ones are more than likely in a compromising position that your doppler can't pick up.  I had a baby doppler with my 2nd pregnancy, and I thought the worse on numerous occassions, cause I couldn't pick up the beat...but then I would always find it. Take a break from it for a few days...or try it at night when you're lying down for bed.   Try to relax, and wait for your next appt, I bet all will be just fine!  : )  Congrats on twins!!
