Experienced moms...

My 2 and a half week old has just stopped crying over the past couple of days. The first several days of his life he would wake up and cry for food, and he would cry out while being changed. Now he sleeps all the time and barely fusses for food. He spits up most of what I feed him. He also has a slight fever. He only has a bowel movement every other day, although large. He still urinates several times a day. I haven't heard him cry out for the past couple of days. All he does is grunt, moan, and whine a little. Calling doc on Mon. What could be wrong? Thank you.

Don't waste time with these forums, go to the ER. We are no replacement for a doctor's advise.

@LoveCake98. Yes, what I meant was, when he's sleeping and I'm sleeping or in another room. Yes, he still roots and ***** fingers when he's hungry. I agree; I try to be mindful of when he's getting hungry. Thanks ladies for your input. I'm going to take him in now. Take care, all.

Agree call pediatrician on this immediately.  Just wondering why your 2 week old was crying out for food though.  Crying is very late sign of hunger.  You should be feeding well before any crying starts--watching for earlier signs.  Lip smacking, little breathing noises sometimes, rooting, etc. Talk with your doc on this too so you're not bringing feeding problems into the mix by waiting too long and upsetting both baby & you.

You do NOT give water to infants under 6 months old. It can dilute their electrolytes, and cause worse problems!!! Any neonate with a fever should be seen ASAP!!!! Go to an er immediately.

I agree, as a former pediatric nurse I would call today.  Don't ever wait with babies, especially newborns.

He might be constipated. Make sure you're giving him plenty of water not just formula.

Call the Dr....he could be dehydrated which prevents him from being able to cry. Do not wait until Monday.
